Uranium oxides were prepared from ammoniumpolyuranate by calcining the latter at different temperatures. These powders exhibited different reactivities during reduction to uranium dioxide. The reason for this was investigated by determining the reactions mechanism and kinetics of the powder. It was found that the reduction reaction consisted of at least three steps. The reaction rate was very dependent on the state of the powders and the flowrate of the reducing gas.
