Book Description
This book is a collection of random memories and anecdotes collected together from deep within my fading memory. They are in the form of a series of stories by an old man (me) while sat around the fire with friends, family and anyone who will listen, and often while they are not listening, as he re-lives his younger days. I cannot call myself a writer, but downhill with a following wind I could accept being described as a story-teller. I have had, and continue to have a happy life. I am not particularly interested in earning lots of money, being a proper Yorkshire man I am more concerned with not spending it. I have enjoyed writing my memoirs and seeing them in print. My rambles are not political and I do not mention covid-19 nor Brexit at all. I limit my admiration to friends, family and very few past notables. So-called celebrities do not get a look in anywhere. Peter Norcliffe of Golcar. 21/06/1947.

Book Description
Stephie Jay was one of the most beloved reality television stars and social media influencers of the last decade, regarded as 'royalty' in the city of Newcastle Upon Tyne where she lived. Now she's dead from what everybody but her parents have accepted to be a tragic but inexplainable suicide. Jake Lehman is a private investigator trying to keep his head above the water line as the North East stumbles alongside the rest of the UK towards an economic collapse. Broken from a past that left him betrayed and scapegoated by his ex-police colleagues and a corrupt local government, Lehman is hired by Stephie's parents to investigate their daughter's death and prove it was not as it has been portrayed. To do that, Lehman's going to have to face down his past, his addictions and all the demons that come with both. Lehman's Terms is a journey down a dark path to the truth with an irreverent narrator who's too busy deconstructing the tale he's telling you to realise just how out of his depth he is. If you're a fan of Shane Black movies, 80s soft rock music and Elmore Leonard novels, this is for you! ------------------------------- Reviews for "Lehman's Terms": "If Shane Black wrote a Geordie private eye thriller for Ross Noble this would be it!" - Emily John. "An unconventional action thriller; purposefully meandering (in a good way) but when it kicks into gear its impossible to put down! It's dark, funny AND actually quite moving!" - Sarah Mitchell. "I, and hopefully a wider audience, found [McClane] quite enjoyable as a guide into the world of the P.I." - Thomas Ludlow. "An exciting, investigative, thrill-ride where lots of stuff gets smashed the f**k up!" - Rob Leatt. "If you like 80s action movies, s**t soft rock, comedic ramblings about pop culture (specifically the ending of The Fugitive) and an irreverent new spin on old private eye tropes, THIS is the book for you! This is DEFINITELY the book for you!" - James Grant. "★★★★★ ... by the time you get to the shocking reveal it is impossible to put down!" - Helen Grover. "It's assured in its style and sets that out from the start. I blasted through it for one reason: It's f**king good!" - Mark Flaherty. -------------------------------

Book Description
Prepare for a different kind of singularity in Peter Watts' Echopraxia, the follow-up to the Hugo-nominated novel Blindsight It's the eve of the twenty-second century: a world where the dearly departed send postcards back from Heaven and evangelicals make scientific breakthroughs by speaking in tongues; where genetically engineered vampires solve problems intractable to baseline humans and soldiers come with zombie switches that shut off self-awareness during combat. And it's all under surveillance by an alien presence that refuses to show itself. Daniel Bruks is a living fossil: a field biologist in a world where biology has turned computational, a cat's-paw used by terrorists to kill thousands. Taking refuge in the Oregon desert, he's turned his back on a humanity that shatters into strange new subspecies with every heartbeat. But he awakens one night to find himself at the center of a storm that will turn all of history inside-out. Now he's trapped on a ship bound for the center of the solar system. To his left is a grief-stricken soldier, obsessed by whispered messages from a dead son. To his right is a pilot who hasn't yet found the man she's sworn to kill on sight. A vampire and its entourage of zombie bodyguards lurk in the shadows behind. And dead ahead, a handful of rapture-stricken monks takes them all to a meeting with something they will only call "The Angels of the Asteroids." Their pilgrimage brings Dan Bruks, the fossil man, face-to-face with the biggest evolutionary breakpoint since the origin of thought itself. Book Description
A new, fully restored edition of the essential Canadian classic. An unflinchingly honest memoir of her experience as a Métis woman in Canada, Maria Campbell's Halfbreed depicts the realities that she endured and, above all, overcame. Maria was born in Northern Saskatchewan, her father the grandson of a Scottish businessman and Métis woman--a niece of Gabriel Dumont whose family fought alongside Riel and Dumont in the 1885 Rebellion; her mother the daughter of a Cree woman and French-American man. This extraordinary account, originally published in 1973, bravely explores the poverty, oppression, alcoholism, addiction, and tragedy Maria endured throughout her childhood and into her early adult life, underscored by living in the margins of a country pervaded by hatred, discrimination, and mistrust. Laced with spare moments of love and joy, this is a memoir of family ties and finding an identity in a heritage that is neither wholly Indigenous or Anglo; of strength and resilience; of indominatable spirit. This edition of Halfbreed includes a new introduction written by Indigenous (Métis) scholar Dr. Kim Anderson detailing the extraordinary work that Maria has been doing since its original publication 46 years ago, and an afterword by the author looking at what has changed, and also what has not, for Indigenous people in Canada today. Restored are the recently discovered missing pages from the original text of this groundbreaking and significant work.

Book Description
A heartstopping, poignant, epic adventure story about a boy destined to live forever, who only wants to grow up. Without death, life is just existence. Have you ever wondered what it would be like to live forever? Well, Alfie Monk can tell you. He may seem like an ordinary eleven-year-old boy, but he's actually more than a thousand years old--and remembers the last Viking invasion of England, not to mention the French Revolution and both World Wars. Way back in the tenth century, he and his mother were given the alchemical secret to eternal life. But when everything Alfie knows is destroyed in a fire, and the modern world intrudes, he must embark on a mission--along with friends Aidan and Roxy--to find a way to reverse the process and grow up like a regular boy. This astonishing new novel from the author of Time Traveling with a Hamster, told in alternating perspectives by Alfie and Aidan, is a tour de force--a sweeping epic that takes you on an unforgettable, breathtaking adventure and asks big questions about the meaning of life.

Book Description
From the New York Times bestselling author of Swing Time and one of the most revered writers of her generation comes an "intelligent ... exquisitely clever [novel] about fame, mortality, and the triumph of image over reality” (The Boston Globe). Alex-Li Tandem sells autographs. His business is to hunt for names on paper, collect them, sell them, and occasionally fake them—all to give the people what they want: a little piece of Fame. But what does Alex want? Only the return of his father, the end of religion, something for his headache, three different girls, infinite grace, and the rare autograph of forties movie actress Kitty Alexander. With fries. The Autograph Man is a deeply funny existential tour around the hollow trappings of modernity: celebrity, cinema, and the ugly triumph of symbol over experience. It offers further proof that Zadie Smith is one of the most staggeringly talented writers of her generation.
