Book Description
Meet the Henderson family: Jeff, a struggling salesman who lives with a constant nagging fear that something will happen to his family; Will, who’s just trying to figure out life in the fifth grade; Emily whose greatest concern is that she won’t be nominated homecoming queen; and Amy, who is growing stir-crazy from being a housewife of eighteen years—and is convinced this was God’s plan B for her life. The Hendersons are longtime residents of Goodland, Kansas, a small Midwest town where nothing new or exciting ever happens … until now. Are the recent “weird” happenings and catastrophic weather mere coincidence, or more? The town spirals into chaos and confusion as its residents discover the end is no longer near—the end is now. Rob Stennett’s second novel is both a satire and a story of the apocalypse, a thriller and an exploration of family, community, belief, unbelief, and the two thousand-year-old Christian tradition of looking to the sky because the end is near.

Book Description
In the US South, wood-based bioenergy schemes are being promoted and implemented through a powerful vision merging social, environmental, and economic benefits for rural, forest-dependent communities. While this dominant narrative has led to heavy investment in experimental technologies and rural development, many complexities and complications have emerged during implementation. Forests as Fuel draws on extensive multi-sited ethnography to ground the story of wood-based bioenergy in the biophysical, economic, political, social, and cultural landscape of this region. This book contextualizes energy issues within the history and potential futures of the region’s forested landscapes, highlighting the impacts of varying perceptions of climate change and complex racial dynamics. Eschewing simple answers, the authors illuminate the points of friction that occur as competing visions of bioenergy development confront each other to variously support, reshape, contest, or reject bioenergy development. Building on recent conceptual advances in studies of sociotechnical imaginaries, environmental history, and energy justice, the authors present a careful and nuanced analysis that can provide guidance for promoting meaningful participation of local community members in renewable energy policy and production while recognizing the complex interplay of factors affecting its implementation in local places.

Book Description
"Forget Me Not will stay with your forever. It is a beautifully written story of great love, great daring, great loss, and great recovery. Most of all, it is a story of great courage." - Tom Brokaw High in the Himalaya, a world-class adventurer dies, leaving a wife, three young sons and a best friend to cope with their grief... In 1999, well-known mountaineer, Alex Lowe, died tragically in an avalanche on the remote Himalayan Mountain Shishapangma, leaving his wife Jennifer alone to raise their three children. Alex was widely considered one of the greatest modern climbers of our time, and the world mourned his loss. Tom Brokaw interviewed Jennifer Lowe and Conrad Anker for Dateline, and Sting narrated and composed music for a tribute film, The Endless Knot. While Jenni and her sons faced the absence of a husband and father, Alex's longtime climbing partner, Conrad Anker, who survived the accident that killed Lowe, faced his own grief and survivor's guilt. Jenni and Conrad gradually, and unexpectedly, found solace in each other. Through letters and expedition notes from Alex, Forget Me Not spans continents and tells the story of three people whose lives intertwine to a degree they could never have imagined. Jenni's account takes readers inside a woman's heart and mind as she navigates her shattered life and survives, finding love through loss. From the valleys of Montana, to the peaks of the Himalayas, this is the story of growing up, falling in love, finding adventure, rejoicing in parenthood, living through heartbreak, and believing in possibility -- above all else. Readers will be spit from their armchairs, soaring across the heights of the highest peaks, and into the heart of the American west--with the voice of a soulful friend guiding their path.

Book Description
With themes wrapped around tabooed comedy routines, Fabled Truths, Volume One is the first of three collections containing easy, but uncomfortable, self-portraits and poetic essays addressing social situations through parodies of American iconography, uncompromised profiling and mindless stereotyping. The book presents skewed modern snapshots of what a long history of bias has left on the shared consciousness of Americans, guiding the viewers outside and deeper inside the skins of what their own surface assessments of cultures, social practices and gender identities might be, with a challenge to cross that battle-lines between the fables and the truths of those assessments. Fabled Truths is not just about race and sex, the poor or the rich. It is about differences, minute and profound, the fragile separations between individuals, and how those thin lines deem every human being subject to becoming somebodys punch-line, somebodys joke, the center of a one-liner. Crossing paths in content, these 16 self-portraits and 20 poetic essays do not entirely define each other, very much like those people who live in the other part of town. Those others who we have to drive past to get to our part of town. Those others who, based on a casual two second encounter. . . leads to our complete/one minute summation/of the others entire existence. . .
