Book Description
Candlestick technical analysis is an old trading technique that tracks the short-term price movements by employing the relationship between open, high, low, and close prices. The purpose of this thesis is to examine the predictive power of candlestick trading strategies by using the Taiwan 151 component stocks daily data for the period from 2 January 1992 to 31 December 2009. The main contribution of this thesis is using a fourprice- level approach to categorize the single-line patterns constructed by candlestick charting in a systematical manner. The approach adopted in this thesis permits us to release for the limitation of recognition in a manner not previously possible. Moreover, we not only consider transaction costs and risk but also mitigate data-snooping problems conscientiously by several appropriate methods, including the bootstrap methodology and sub-sample and out-of-sample tests. We find evidence that four patterns are profitable for the Taiwan stock market after transaction costs, including one bullish pattern and three bearish ones.

Book Description
Investors and traders seek methods to identify reversal and continuation to better time their trades. This applies for virtually everyone, whether employing a swing trading strategy, engaging in options trading, or timing entry and exit to spot bull and bear reversals. Key signals are found in the dozens of candlesticks, combined with technical signals such as gaps and moves outside of the trading range; size of wicks (shadows) and size of real bodies. The science of candlestick analysis has a proven track record not only from its inception in 17th century Japan, but today as well. This book explains and demonstrates candlestick signals, including both the appearance of each but in context on an actual stock chart. It further takes the reader through the rationale of reversal and continuation signals and demonstrates the crucial importance of confirmation (in the form of other candlesticks, traditional technical signals, volume, momentum and moving averages). Michael C. Thomsett is a market expert, author, speaker and coach. His many books include Mathematics of Options, Real Estate Investor’s Pocket Calculator, and A Technical Approach to Trend Analysis. Book Description
Using two sets of data, including daily prices (open, close, high and low) of all Samp;P 500 stocks between 1992 and 1996, we perform a statistical test of predictive capability of candlestick patterns. Out-of-sample tests indicate statistical significance at the level of 36 standard deviations from the null hypothesis, and indicate a profit of almost 1% during a two-day holding period. An essentially non-parametric test utilizes standard definitions of three-day candlestick patterns and removes conditions on magnitudes. The results provide evidence that traders are influenced by price behavior. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first scientific test to provide strong evidence in favor of any trading rule or pattern on a large unrestricted scale.

Book Description
A candlestick is a tool used in technical analysis of financial markets to represent price movements of an asset, such as a stock, currency, or commodity. Candlesticks patterns can be used to identify patterns and trends in price movements, which can help traders make informed decisions about buying and selling assets. Some common candlestick patterns include the "doji," which occurs when the opening and closing prices are almost identical, and the "hammer," which has a small real body and a long lower shadow, indicating a potential reversal of a downward trend. There are many candlestick patterns that traders use to analyze price movements in financial markets. Here is a list of some common candlestick patterns: Doji - This pattern occurs when the opening and closing prices are almost identical, resulting in a small real body. It suggests indecision in the market and can signal a potential reversal. Hammer - This pattern has a small real body and a long lower shadow, indicating that buyers have stepped in to support the price. It can signal a potential reversal of a downward trend. Shooting star - This pattern has a small real body and a long upper shadow, indicating that sellers have pushed the price down. It can signal a potential reversal of an upward trend. Engulfing pattern - This pattern occurs when a small candlestick is followed by a larger candlestick that completely engulfs it. It can signal a potential reversal of the previous trend. Harami - This pattern occurs when a small candlestick is contained within the real body of the previous candlestick. It can signal a potential reversal of the previous trend. Piercing pattern - This pattern occurs when a candlestick with a long lower shadow is followed by a candlestick with a long real body that closes above the midpoint of the previous candlestick. It can signal a potential reversal of a downward trend. Dark cloud cover - This pattern occurs when a candlestick with a long upper shadow is followed by a candlestick with a long real body that closes below the midpoint of the previous candlestick. It can signal a potential reversal of an upward trend. Morning star - This pattern consists of three candlesticks: a long downward candlestick, a short candlestick with a small real body, and a long upward candlestick. It can signal a potential reversal of a downward trend. Evening star - This pattern consists of three candlesticks: a long upward candlestick, a short candlestick with a small real body, and a long downward candlestick. It can signal a potential reversal of an upward trend. These are just a few of the many candlestick patterns that traders use to analyze price movements in financial markets. It's important to note that while these patterns can be useful in identifying potential trends and reversals, they should always be used in conjunction with other technical indicators and fundamental analysis to make informed trading decisions.
