Book Description
There is a tendency to make flow measurement a highly theoretical and technical subject but what most influences quality measurement is the practical application of meters, metering principles, and metering equipment and the use of quality equipment that can continue to function through the years with proper maintenance have the most influence in obtaining quality measurement. This guide provides a review of basic laws and principles, an overview of physical characteristics and behavior of gases and liquids, and a look at the dynamics of flow. The authors examine applications of specific meters, readout and related devices, and proving systems. Practical guidelines for the meter in use, condition of the fluid, details of the entire metering system, installation and operation, and the timing and quality of maintenance are also included. This book is dedicated to condensing and sharing the authors' extensive experience in solving flow measurement problems with design engineers, operating personnel (from top supervisors to the newest testers), academically-based engineers, engineers of the manufacturers of flow meter equipment, worldwide practitioners, theorists, and people just getting into the business. - The authors' many years of experience are brought to bear in a thorough review of fluid flow measurement methods and applications - Avoids theory and focuses on presentation of practical data for the novice and veteran engineer - Useful for a wide range of engineers and technicians (as well as students) in a wide range of industries and applications

Book Description
This book gives the background to differential-pressure flow measurement and goes through the requirements explaining the reason for them. For those who want to use an orifice plate or a Venturi tube the standard ISO 5167 and its associated Technical Reports give the instructions required. However, they rarely tell the users why they should follow certain instructions. This book helps users of the ISO standards for orifice plates and Venturi tubes to understand the reasons why the standards are as they are, to apply them effectively, and to understand the consequences of deviations from the standards.

Book Description
In recent years capnography has gained a foothold in the medical field and is fast becoming a standard of care in anaesthesiology and critical care medicine. In addition, newer applications have emerged which have expanded the utility of capnographs in a number of medical disciplines. This new edition of the definitive text on capnography reviews every aspect of this valuable diagnostic technique. An introductory section summarises the basic physiology of carbon dioxide generation and transport in the body. A technical section describes how the instruments work, and a comprehensive clinical section reviews the use of capnography to diagnose a wide range of clinical disorders. Edited by the world experts in the technique, and with over 40 specialist contributors, Capnography, second edition, is the most comprehensive review available on the application of capnography in health care.

Not illustrated. 1922 edition. Excerpt: ...and the differential increased from 16 inches to 30 inches without any change in the valve C, consequently without any increase whatever in the amount of steam passing through the orifice. After the compressor was started the differential reading again increased without any increase in the amount of steam passing through the orifice. Inasmuch as the increase of differential was not due to an increased flow of steam, the effect was due to the pulsation occasioned by the opening and closing of the slide valves of the generator and compressor, both of them being reciprocating units. It is noted that prior to the test when the machines were not operating that the differential arm remained at zero when there was no steam passing through the orifice, and that after valve C was closed, when there was no steam passing through the orifice, that a differential pressure of approximately 9 inches of water was recorded, due to pulsation only. This differential continued as long as the generator and compressor operated at a uniform speed. The static pen arm in previous tests vibrated over a range of 10 to 15 Ib. with a frequency of the opening and closing of the valves of the reciprocating units when they were operating. To lessen this vibration a dash pot was attached to a static pen arm producing the smooth lines as shown. The effect of partially closing the valves on the gauge lines also produced a smooth pressure reading but gave erratic differential readings. In all cases when the gauge line valves were fully opened the differential reading was very uniform without any appreciable vibration. The weight of steam passing the orifice checked with a differential reading of 16 inches for the total period of the test, so that the flow corresponded to...

Book Description
Over the last two decades the development, evaluation and use of MFM systems has been a major focus for the Oil & Gas industry worldwide. Since the early 1990's, when the first commercial meters started to appear, there have been around 2,000 field applications of MFM for field allocation, production optimisation and well testing. So far, many alternative metering systems have been developed, but none of them can be referred to as generally applicable or universally accurate. Both established and novel technologies suitable to measure the flow rates of gas, oil and water in a three-phase flow are reviewed and assessed within this book. Those technologies already implemented in the various commercial meters are evaluated in terms of operational and economical advantages or shortcomings from an operator point of view. The lessons learned about the practical reliability, accuracy and use of the available technology is discussed. The book suggests where the research to develop the next generation of MFM devices will be focused in order to meet the as yet unsolved problems. The book provides a critical and independent review of the current status and future trends of MFM, supported by the authors' strong background on multiphase flow and by practical examples. These are based on the authors' direct experience on MFM, gained over many years of research in connection with both operators and service companies. As there are currently no books on the subject of Multiphase Flow Metering for the Oil & Gas industry, this book will fill in the gap and provide a theoretical and practical reference for professionals, academics, and students.* Written by leading scholars and industry experts of international standing* Includes strong coverage of the theoretical background, yet also provides practical examples and current developments* Provides practical reference for professionals, students and academics
