Book Description
Oakland has been shaped by the transcontinental railroad, freeways, earthquakes, and its location on the shores of San Francisco Bay. But what makes Oakland such an amazing city are the people who have called Oakland home over the years, like Mayor Samuel Merritt, who helped make Oakland the terminus of the transcontinental railroad; Elizabeth Flood, who worked to desegregate Oakland schools in the 1870s; and F.M. "Borax" Smith, who created the Key System. Oakland has been home to game-changing athletes like "father of modern tennis" Don Budge and Curt Flood, who helped bring free agency to sports; artists like writer Jack London, dancer Isadora Duncan, poet Joaquin Miller, and cartoonist Morrie Turner; and culture-shaping movements like the Black Panther Party. However, the impact of Oaklanders is not just historical. From Oscar Grant to Favianna Rodriguez to Marshawn Lynch to Jerry Brown, people in Oakland continue to shape not just "the Town," but the entire country.

Book Description
Jack London was an American novelist, journalist and social activist. Pioneering the genre of magazine fiction and prototyping science fiction, he became one of the first writers, who gained worldwide fame and a large fortune. "South Sea Tales" is a collection of short stories, most of them are set aboard a ship or in island communities. "The Call of the Wild" is a short adventure novel set in Canada during the Klondike Gold Rush. The story starts when someone steals the main character, a dog Buck of a ranch in Santa Clara Valley, from his home and sells him into service as a sled dog in Alaska. "Tales of the Fish Patrol" is a collection of stories drawn from author's own experiences and memories of the days as a teenager aboard the fishing boats of San Francisco Bay.

Book Description
I am not a historian. I am simply an American citizen who grew up in Brooklyn, New York after my birth in the state of Virginia. My family, African-Americans from the south, decided to leave a life of farming and despair to move to New York to start anew, with nine children; three girls, six boys, and mother and father, who firmly believed that they could make a better life for all their family members. As the exception to the rule, I finished high school along with my brothers and sisters, and went on to college where I earned degrees in business and in law. This enabled me to become an officer and manager in the banking industry, where I served over twenty eight years. In addition I served a number of years as a businessman, served in state government, and served in the regular Army of the U.S. I have written other books on business and banking that were published by and for the banking community as training and management material. I am currently working on a series of business books which will be introduced to members of the business community as a source of training for new small business owners and entrepreneurs.
