It is true, that her occasional effusions in the literary and other journals, for a number of years past, had drawn forth expressions of very high approbation, from persons whose opinions were entitled to unqualified respect. But when it is recollected, that the mass of newspaper poetry is justly regarded as mere trash - rhyme without sentiment, and sickly sentimentality without substance or sense - it is easy to conceive, that a writer of a higher tone and order is placed in disadvantageous circumstances, when forced to breathe in such an unnatural atmosphere, and in such company.
