Book Description
"In The Market Day of the Soul, James T. Dennison examines the question of the supreme Christian holy day, the Sabbath. He shows how the Sabbath emerged from the imprecision of the sixteenth century to become a celebrated cause in pre-Revolutionary England. Finally, he demonstrates the triumph of the Puritan Sabbath during the Revolution, a triumph that continued to make the English Sabbath distinctive into the nineteenth century. In the course of this investigation, Dennison shows that the Puritan view of the Lord's Day became the dominate view - both theologically and practically - by the latter half of the seventeenth century, in spite of challenges it faced from the ""medieval"" position of the Court party and the Seventh-day Sabbatarians. Table of Contents: Preface Introduction Chapter 1 - The Formative Years: The Sabbath and the Desire for a Pure Reformation, 1532-1603 Chapter 2 - The Restless Years: The Sabbath in the Era of the Book of Sports, 1603-1633 Chapter 3 - Years of No Rest: The Sabbath Pamphlet Wars, Laud and the Revolution, 1633-1650 Chapter 4 - Years of Relative Rest: The Sabbath as an English Custom, 1650-1700 Chapter 5 - Conclusion Appendix I - Articles of Visitation Appendix II - The Puritan Attitude Toward Recreation Table Illustrating Doctrinal Differences and Similarities"

Book Description
Revised to incorporate the changes in opinions and attitudes since its first publication, the second edition of 'Places of the Soul' has brought Christopher Day's classic text into the 21st century. This new edition of the seminal text reminds us that true sustainable design does not simply mean energy efficient building. Sustainable buildings must provide for the 'soul'. For Christopher Day architecture is not just about a building's appearance, but how the building is experienced. 'Places of the Soul' presents buildings as environment, intrinsic to their surroundings, and offers design principles that will open the eyes of the architecture student and professional alike, presenting ideas quite different to the orthodoxy of modern architectural education. Christopher Day's experience as an architect, self-builder, professor and sculptor have all added to the development of his ideas that encompass issues of economic and social sustainability, commercial pressures and consensus design. This book presents these ideas and outlines universal principles that will be of interest and value to architects, builders, planners and developers alike.

Book Description
'An essential book about the transformative power of a grounded spiritual life' Jack Canfield, internationally bestselling author of Chicken Soup for the Soul 'This wonderful blend of science and spirituality provides a clear path to finding deeper meaning and joy in life. A beautiful read' Marci Shimoff, No.1 New York Times bestselling author of Happy for No Reason In this ground-breaking book, psychologist and mindfulness meditation teacher Susannah Healy reveals the evidence-basis for the value of spirituality in all aspects of our lives. She examines the place of spirituality in a culture that values individualism and left-brained thinking, and delves into the psychological research that shows that it is in self-transcendence -- the conscious service of others and the world -- that true happiness lies. Gently guiding the reader through millennia of spiritual teachings in the world faith traditions, Susannah expands the vision of God from the Western 'old man in the sky' image into something less literal, which can ultimately give meaning to all. She shows how we can apply this to all aspects of our life, including relationships, parenting, career and recreation, for our greater good and that of society as a whole. With meditations, simple exercises and case studies, The Seven-Day Soul is a book of gentle wisdom to live by.

Book Description
Every day, tens of thousands of women turn to Midday Connection for spiritual nourishment and encouragement through the radio program and Facebook community. The hosts, Anita Lustrea, Melinda Schmidt and Lori Neff hear the heartfelt needs of these women and understand their desires to grow in body, mind, and soul. In response, Midday Connection along with prominent authors and artists – Staci Eldridge, Shannon Ethridge, Carol Kent, Sara Groves and many others – compiled Tending the Soul: 90-days of Spiritual Nourishment. This devotional combines transparency with biblical truth, as each reading begins with scripture, followed by a short devotional including a deeply personal prayer, and closes with an application question.
