Book Description
In this human account of World War II experiences, readers are taken into military camps in beautiful parts of Britain and reminded of the absurdities of men who wore the uniforms of soldiers but were clerks and shop assistants at heart. The book's journey also encompasses travel by troopship to West Africa, marches into the Nigerian bush, and voyages in the South Atlantic, across the Indian Ocean to Bombay and beyond to the Bay of Bengal, to the jungle-clad hills of western Burma. The story throughout is replete with incidents - sometimes amusing - involving the men and women of many kinds and many lands. In his postscript, the author discusses the great constitutional events of 1946/7 on the Indian subcontinent and expresses an appreciation of the achievements and policies of Field Marshal Lord Wavell, who was Viceroy of India during the author's spell in the region as an employee of the Colonial Office.

Book Description
I was in the recognition that I was here for many more reasons than I could possibly comprehend; the superficial, the psychological, the emotional, spiritual and the anything else ending with an "al" that could be squeezed into this being. I was here to seek, to sit, to eat, to make money, to live, and to die. In 1992, author John M. Healey enlisted in the U.S. Army and was sent to Somalia. Upon his return three years later, he was declared mentally unfit for service and was discharged. In 1998, Healey found a backdoor entrance into the Army and reenlisted for a second term. He was then sent to Bosnia, and upon his return he disappeared, never to return to that life-in uniform-again. Awakening of a Foot Soldier: A Journal of Liberation from the Suffering of War is a collection of journal entries that take place between August 2004 and February 2006. At the time of his first account, Healey is in Kuwait awaiting his entry into Iraq where he will work as a civilian contractor. Living in the darkness of depression and post-traumatic stress disorder, he goes to Iraq in search of death and ultimately finds inner peace. Awakening of a Foot Soldier is an enlightening story that shares the vulnerability of a young man and his quest for peace and liberation from the darkness of war.

Book Description
Edward "Eddie" Cyr, MSN, explores his life long journey, from a background as a second-generation immigrant to US Army colonel and nurse anesthetist in a war zone within the War on Terror, through his three deployments. His journey to his military career and experiencing war was influenced by his first generational French Canadian father, with his six brothers, along with his mother's two first generational Italian brothers who all served in World War II. He experienced the tribulations of growing up in the 1950s and '60s in a multicultural "Greatest Generation" family, which had a strong sense and pride of military service. Eddie early on experienced learning disabilities, which were not initially recognized, while being the first in his father's family to graduate from college. Eddie met his wife, Patricia, in college, in the nursing program that they both matriculated. Their marriage is blessed with five daughters and eleven grandchildren. This journey explores the decisions and difficulties from a young childhood through adulthood into his post military career. His committing to both a military and civilian career while navigating the difficulties of three deployments both in the war zone and multiple serious issues at home. It is a story of belief in self, determination, the love of a spouse and family, his military family and friendships, along with the advantages available to each of us if we trust in God and Country, all the while willing to work for what we believe we can accomplish. This is his story of not only of war and the issues of separation from family, but how he developed his desire to serve in uniform from the very beginning.
