Book Description
Excerpt from The Juvenile Instructor, Vol. 27: June 1, 1892 I'm real glad you can afford to take it so high an' mighty, my boy; may be you'll say different when you've starved a day or two. Don't get riled about it, mother; may be you'll think like me when you know what I know. Mother, we are living in the last days; a great prophet has been raised up in these days, an' the Lord has revealed Himself to him an' told him of things to come; an' great tribulation is comin' upon the nations if they don't repent an' be baptized'; an' I'm goin' to be baptized tonight, mother. Tristan stopped breathless, and his mother sat, spindle in hand, and looked with Open mouth at her son, and wondering how he had suddenly become so gifted with language. Book Description
Excerpt from The Juvenile Instructor, Vol. 27: Designed Expressly for the Education and Elevation of the Young; February 15, 1892 One of the most remarkable features to be observed in the death passage of these martyrs of the commonwealth was, that they all died in full faith that their cause would be resurrected, and that in this resurrection would be the setting up of the kingdom of God upon the earth, crowned with the second coming of Messiah to reign with His saints a thousand years. Thou hast therefore another day of decision yet to come! Was Sir Harry Vane's dying prophecy. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Book Description
Excerpt from The Juvenile Instructor, Vol. 27: August 1, 1892 These Arabs are generally of smaller build than their roaming brethren. But they are strong and brave. They fulfill the duties of their religion with commendable punctuality. They attend regularly to their washings and ablutions; say their prayers wherever they are at the appointed hours, and no matter how busy they may be, and refuse to touch any thing prohibited by the Koran. To strangers they are generally polite, but they are ignorant and as a rule, opposed to any progress. They cling to the traditions of their fathers and consider their own religion and civilization superior to everybody else's. Their noticeable faults are greediness and immorality. About of this class of people have accepted Christianity in one form or another, and these are by degrees adopting occidental civilization. Their houses, their clothing, their manners bear an unmistakable stamp of their desire to emerge from the state of stagnation that characterizes the orientals, and to keep up with the rest of the world. Notwithstanding this, they exhibit many of the faults so noticeable in the Semitic race. And no wonder. For the long rule or rather misrule of the Turks is not calculated to elevate the people either morally or intellectually. They are, how ever, industrious and energetic and show a desire to learn, and have therefore embraced with eagerness what Catholic and Protestant missionaries have offered them in the form of religion. There is no doubt that intelligently directed labor among these orientals would. Result in many of them embracing the gospel of Jesus Christ.
