Book Description
Esther Edwards Burr was born in 1732, the third child of of the famed preacher of the Great Awakening, Jonathan Edwards and his godly wife, Sarah. Her father is widely considered to be the greatest theologian that the American Continent has produced. Her mother was renowned for her beauty, intelligence, and piety. This inspiring work contains extensive excerpts directly from Esther's journal written during her youngest days to near the end of her life. It is supplemented with other sources, either in or very close to the Edwards family. Included are letters to and from her best friend, Sally Prince, excerpts from the journals of Jonathan and Sarah Edwards; plus fragments from letters written by family friends. All of the sources combine to give us a compelling glimpse into the 18th century lives of one of the most influential and godly families of Colonial America.Mrs. Sarah Trimmer was born Sarah Kirby in 1741. She was an author and active in opening Sunday Schools at Brentford, England where she lived with her husband. One of her books was titled "The Oeconomy of Charity" (about Sunday Schools). She also published an abridgement of the Old and New Testament. These extracts are taken from her diary which was full of prayers and self examination. Her portrait now hangs in the National Portrait Gallery, London.
