Book Description
Arnell Rayford's mother, Esther, is where she's always wanted to be. Ensconced in the mansion where her own mother once worked as a housekeeper, she runs a thriving business that's surely making the previous owner turn in her grave. For Esther, money is everything, and no one will stand in the way of her making it—not even her only child. While some may call Esther's live-in employees prostitutes, she prefers to call them ladies of charm—or tenants. There are no laws against renting out rooms, after all. Of course, there are laws against prostituting one's own underage daughter. It's a devastating secret Arnell and Esther have kept for years. Esther calls the jobs "favors," but Arnell recognizes them for what they are: demands couched in blackmail. Now that Arnell is engaged to a pillar of the community, Esther's latest request may well send her over the edge—but she won't be going alone. Because while Esther is holding Arnell's past overhead, her own is coming back to haunt her—and the lines between love and hate, parent and child, sex, profit—and even murder—are about to become dangerously blurred. . . "Starts with a bang and ends with a full-blown Fourth of July fireworks display." —QBR, The Black Book Review "The Honey Well is an amazing book! The sweet, poignant, painful and spicy story flowed effortlessly." —The African American Literature Book Club "With a suspenseful plot that reads like a movie, The Honey Well demonstrates how the perils of blackmail, trickery and deceit can overshadow the simple rewards of life."— Upscale

Book Description
In this thought-provoking and lyrical debut novel, a young woman's only hope for survival in the dystopian future is a ship, a Noah's Ark, that can rescue 500 people. London burned for three weeks. And then it got worse. . . Young, naive, and frustratingly sheltered, Lalla has grown up in near-isolation in her parents' apartment, sheltered from the chaos of their collapsed civilization. But things are getting more dangerous outside. People are killing each other for husks of bread, and the police are detaining anyone without an identification card. On her sixteenth birthday, Lalla's father decides it's time to use their escape route -- a ship he's built that is only big enough to save five hundred people. But the utopia her father has created isn't everything it appears. There's more food than anyone can eat, but nothing grows; more clothes than anyone can wear, but no way to mend them; and no-one can tell her where they are going.

Book Description
The stone that became known as "The Honeywell Stone" was first captured by a Honeywell ancestor during the war of the dark ages. Once The Honeywells captured it, they never let it out of their possession, ever. The stone, green in color with what appeared to be a tiny flame flickering inside it had one particular quality. Whoever possessed it would never find themselves short of money. The Honeywells got so used to having it that they carelessly left it on the mantle in the living room where a young cowboy working on the ranch found it one day. He had been told of it's peculiar qualities by the buxom teen-aged daughter of Homer Honeywell. The cowboy scooped it up and took off to join his three companions who were at that time unemployed. There was a history to the stone that claimed if the stone was stollen, the perpetrators always ended up being killed. But the four young cowboys decided to take their chances.

Book Description
More than we ever anticipated, alliances among firms are changing the way business is conducted, particularly in the global, high-technology sector. The reasons are clear: companies must increasingly pool their capabilities to succeed in ever more complex and rapidly changing businesses. But the consequences for managers and for the economy have so far been underestimated. In this new book, Benjamin Gomes-Casseres presents the first in-depth account of the new world of business alliances and shows how collaboration has become part of the very fabric of modern competition. Alliances, he argues, create new units of competition that do battle with one another and with traditional single firms. The flexible capabilities of these multi-firm constellations give them advantages over single firms in certain contexts, offsetting the advantage of a single firm's unified control. When managed effectively, alliances can strengthen a firm's competitive advantage and narrow the gap between leading firms and second-tier players. This often results in intensified rivalry, and the competition within an industry is transformed. Alliances often spread swiftly through an industry as firms jockey for advantage. Yet the very spread of alliances increases their costs and poses new limits on their use. Gomes-Casseres concludes that firms need to manage their constellations to enhance collaboration within their groups, while raising what he calls "barriers to collaboration" for rivals. These ideas are developed and illustrated through original case studies of alliances among U.S., Japanese, and European firms in electronics and computers, including Xerox, IBM, and Fujitsu as well as other small and large companies. The book should be of interest to business academics, managers, and general readers concerned with contemporary capitalism.
