From what they have written, and from 'our ownmstudy of the holy scriptures, we shall endeavor to place this picture in a light so strikingly amiableythatjlot to ad mire it must argue a total want of common sense, as well as an absolute indifference to our best and greatest interest. Our Saviour'was descended of a poor wo man, 'and so humble was his state, that neither J ews, Gentiles, 'nor even the apostles themselves; could at first discern the essence of that divinity Which afterwards became so conspicuous but his life became greatly worthy of imitation, even from the confession of his professed enemies.
