Book Description
For those who have pondered the question of why some ethnic groups seem to prosper in America while others fall behind, one only has to read the message presented here by C. Mark Hollomon. In his book, The Godly Principle of Self-Interest, Mr. Hollomon gives specific answers to Black America as to how and why other groups with cultures such as ethnicity and language are able to come to America, and in a short period of time manage to establish a strong presence economically and politically. A prime example is the Cuban population of Florida. Since the rise of Fidel Castro in Cuba, dissatisfied Cubans have fled Cuba, practiced cooperative economics, built their economic power base and, thus, transformed this base into a political machine, particularly in South Florida. All this was accomplished using the methods C. Mark Hollomon has described in this book. By simple observation, one can also note the Vietnamese boat people in Garden Grove, California, and the Korean population in Los Angeles as other examples of groups that have practiced self-interest successfully. Hollomons message is clear. Black America must harness their buying power and invest in their own community. Black dollars are being siphoned out of the inner cities by groups that do not typically re-invest back into the community which sustains them so well. Ownership is the key. Making a determined and conscious effort about how to use your economic clout is what most groups of like culture have been doing for decades. As a Latino American, I can personally endorse the principles in this book as applicable and beneficialnot only for Black people, but for all people. The blueprint is here. The examples are easily and readily viewed. C. Mark Hollomons words ring true.. Richard Roman. Business Owner. B.A., History. University of California, Los Angeles

The Treasure Principle, Revised and Updated
Author: Randy Alcorn
Publisher: Multnomah
ISBN: 1588601226
Category : Religion
Languages : en
Pages : 162
Book Description
Discover how the joy of giving can make your life richer, starting today. Bestselling author Randy Alcorn introduced readers to a revolution in material freedom and radical generosity with the release of the original The Treasure Principle in 2001. Now the revision to the compact, perennial bestseller includes a provocative new concluding chapter depicting God asking a believer questions about his stewardship over material resources. Jesus spent more time talking about money and possessions than about heaven and hell combined. But too often we’ve overlooked or misunderstood his most profound teaching on this topic, from his words in Matthew 6. Jesus offers us life-changing investment advice. He actually wants us to store up treasures for ourselves—just not here on earth. Instead, he urges us to store our treasure in heaven, where they will await us, and last forever. We can’t take it with us—but we can send it on ahead! Readers are moved from the realms of thoughtful Bible exposition into the highly personal arena of everyday life. Because when Jesus told His followers to “lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven,” He intended that they discover an astounding secret: how joyful giving brings God maximum glory and His children maximum pleasure. In The Treasure Principle, you’ll unearth a radical teaching of Jesus—a secret wrapped up in giving. Once you discover this secret, life will never look the same. And you won’t want it to be. “Supercharged with stunning, divine truth! Lightning struck over and over as I read it.” - John Piper, Senior Pastor, Bethlehem Baptist Church, Minneapolis

Common Good and Self-Interest in Medieval and Early Modern Philosophy
Author: Heikki Haara
Publisher: Springer Nature
ISBN: 3031553047
Category : Common good
Languages : en
Pages : 289
Book Description
Zusammenfassung: This open access volume provides an in-depth analysis of philosophical discussions concerning the common good and its relation to self-interest in the history of Western philosophy. The thirteen chapters explore both renowned and lesser-known thinkers from the Middle Ages to the eighteenth century, covering also the relevant ancient background. By bridging the gap between the medieval and early modern periods, they provide fresh insights into how moral and political philosophers understood the concepts of the common good and self-interest, along with their ethical and political implications. The concept of the common good occupies a central role in philosophical reflections on the public and private dimensions of moral and social life in contemporary debates. By exploring the rich and diverse ways in which the relationship between the common good and self-interest has been understood, this volume has the potential to contribute to our ongoing efforts to critically discern the possibilities and limitations of these concepts in the present. Thus, the volume will be useful for scholars interested in the multi-layered role of the notion of the common good both in the history of philosophy and in contemporary moral and political philosophy
