He married Hilda Garringer, daughter of Isaac Luther Garringer and Bertha Achsah Hammers, 11 January 1919 in Indiana. They had five children. Ancestors, descendants and relatives lived mainly in Virginia, West Virginia, Ohio and Indiana.

David Garringer was born in Germany. It is not known when he first came to America. He is recorded as being in Frederick County, Maryland with his wife Barbara (d. 1814) in 1769. They moved to Berkeley County, West Virginia after 1793 where David died in 1812. Traces some of their descendants. Places descendants lived include Ohio, Kansas, Indiana, Missouri and Oklahoma.
