Book Description
Excerpt from The Farm Income Situation, Vol. 4: May 23, 1940 The recent sharp declines in prices of grains and cotter are not likely to seriously effect the level of farm income in M y, since marketings of these products in May are relatively small. It is probable that income from straw berries and truck crops will continue to increase more than seasonally. Market prices of meat animals were about the same in mid mav as in mid-april, but uh less the heavy movement of cattle continues income av decline slightly from the relatively high devel reached in April. It seems likely, therefore, that the change in income from April to May will not differ greatly from the usual slight increase which normally occurs between these 2 months. Government pay ments in May are expected to be smaller than in April and to continue low until payments of the 1940 soil-conservation and price-parity programs get under way in volume in the last half of the year.
