Book Description
Excerpt from The Enrichment of Ore Deposits The problems of superficial alteration and enrichment are not simple. Not only do the several metals segregate in different ways, but each metal may behave differently in different mineral associa tions. Every district and every deposit should be studied separately in the light of all available chemical and geologic data. There are, however, certain laws Of segregation that almost invariably are clearly indicated, and as data have accumulated many puzzling ap parent exceptions to these laws have disappeared. This paper is an amplification of, an earlier Survey bulletin on the enrichment of sulphide ores (bulletin It is a discussion of representative deposits, especially Of the paragenesis of their ores and of the principles that underlie the processes of enrichment. I hope it may suggest to those engaged in geologic work and in mining some lines Of approach to the solution of the complex problems that are encountered in the field. I realize fully that there may be serious omissions and possibly errors in the discussion of the complex problems here presented. I shall esteem it a favor if anyone whose statements I may have mis quoted or misinterpreted will set me right, and if those who have had superior opportunities for study Of certain districts will correct any wrong impressions that I may have given. Book Description
Supergene and Surficial Ore Deposits; Textures and Fabrics is a collection of papers that deals with economic geological deposits, particularly as endogenic type, or as an integral part of their geological environment. One paper explores the possibility that the evolution of ores of sedimentary affiliation or of sedimentary rocks and their chemistry during geologic history can be a product of the evolution of the outer spheres of the earth combined with a cycling phenomena that proceeds in a spiral way. Another paper discusses the role of climate on a large range of depositional environments through mobilization, both by chemical and physical events, of metal-ions. Mobilization can also occur by controlled deposition and enrichment of the "mobilized" ions in a certain sedimentary environment. Various depositions occur in different climates, for example, bauxites, requiring higher precipitation levels, form in humid zones. One paper points that ore-mineral accumulations controlled by descending supergene solutions play a significant role in ore-mineral depositions. The collection is beneficial to geologists, industrial chemists, researchers, technical designers, and engineers whose works are related with ore deposits and mining.

Book Description
Modern civilizations dependence upon an increasing volume and diversity of minerals makes the search for new ore deposits ever more difficult. Now available from Waveland Press, Guilbert & Parks text presents ideas, principles, and data fundamental for beginning economic geologists to understand the genesis and localization of ore deposits and of the minerals associated with them. The authors comprehensively describe the physical and chemical characteristics of ore deposits and correlate them with environments and conditions of deposition, since ore deposits are best interpreted as extensions of the environments responsible for their enclosing rocks. Examples and illustrations emphasize structural, chemical, and temporal controls and encourage the three-dimensional thinking used by productive explorationists as they face unsolved problems. This upper-level undergraduate text is fully illustrated and meticulously indexed. Its reliable, authoritative coverage assumes an upper-level command of chemistry and physics, as well as mineralogy, petrology, and structural geology. Outstanding features . . . develops and combines the abilities of the explorationist and of the researcher of ore-forming processes structures the geologic descriptions into groupings recognized by researchers and explorers alike builds confidence, revitalizes curiosity, and encourages expanded thinking emphasizes that the days of easy discovery of outcropping ores are not over includes revised, expanded, and updated descriptions of districts
