Book Description
This book was first published in 2007. Most countries levy taxes on corporations, but the impact - and therefore the wisdom - of such taxes is highly controversial among economists. Does the burden of these taxes fall on wealthy shareowners, or is it passed along to those who work for, or buy the products of, corporations? Can a country with high corporate taxes remain competitive in the global economy? This book features research by leading economists and accountants that sheds light on these and related questions, including how taxes affect corporate dividend policy, stock market value, avoidance, and evasion. The studies promise to inform both future tax policy and regulatory policy, especially in light of the Sarbanes-Oxley Act and other actions by the Securities and Exchange Commission that are having profound effects on the market for tax planning and auditing in the wake of the well-publicized accounting scandals in Enron and WorldCom.

Book Description
In the wake of the 2008 global financial crisis, the regulation of the world's enormous derivatives markets assumed center stage on the international public policy agenda. Critics argued that loose regulation had contributed to the momentous crisis, but lasting reform has been difficult to implement since. Despite the global importance of derivatives markets, they remain mysterious and obscure to many. In Governing the World's Biggest Market, Eric Helleiner, Stefano Pagliari, and Irene Spagna have gathered an international cast of contributors to rectify this relative neglect. They examine how G20 governments have developed a coordinated international agenda to enhance control over these markets, which had been allowed to grow largely unchecked before the crisis. In analyzing this reform agenda, they advance three core arguments: first, the agenda to rein in these enormous markets has many limitations; second, the reform process has been plagued by delays, inconsistencies, and tensions that fragment the governance of these markets; and third, the politics driving the reforms have been extremely complicated. An authoritative overview of how this vast system is governed, Governing the World's Biggest Market looks at how the goals, limitations, and outcomes of post-crisis initiatives to regulate these markets have been influenced by a complex combination of transnational, inter-state, and domestic political dynamics. Moreover, this volume emphasizes how crucial regulatory reform is to stabilizing the global economy long-term.

Book Description
Game theory has been applied to a growing list of practical problems, from antitrust analysis to monetary policy; from the design of auction institutions to the structuring of incentives within firms; from patent races to dispute resolution. The purpose of Game Theory and Business Applications is to show how game theory can be used to model and analyze business decisions. The contents of this revised edition contain a wide variety of business functions – from accounting to operations, from marketing to strategy to organizational design. In addition, specific application areas include market competition, law and economics, bargaining and dispute resolution, and competitive bidding. All of these applications involve competitive decision settings, specifically situations where a number of economic agents in pursuit of their own self-interests and in accordance with the institutional “rules of the game” take actions that together affect all of their fortunes. As this volume demonstrates, game theory provides a compelling guide for analyzing business decisions and strategies.

Book Description
The report describes the development of a new risk management culture within professions, companies and governments. The obsession with managing risk is creating organisations which are not so much risk averse as ‘responsibility averse’. In medicine, doctors are practising ‘defensive medicine’ where opinions are heavily qualified with caveats and patients left to make big decisions. The report also refers to growing evidence that since Enron’s failure, major accountancy firms are declining to work with ‘high risk’ clients - the very ones that should be thoroughly audited. “When disclaimer paragraphs are longer than the professional opinions they follow, we know something has gone wrong,” says author Professor Michael Power, a director of the ESRC Centre for Analysis of Risk and Regulation at the London School of Economics. “In the interests of transparency, small print should be made large and ruled out as a secondary risk management ploy. “The trends in professions such as medicine and auditing signal a withdrawal of individual judgement from the public. Minimal records are kept, staff are cautioned about the use of email, and normal correspondence is littered with disclaimers. The risk management of everything implies a society of ‘small print’.” Power sees the rise of the ‘risk management of everything’ as a related trend to the audit culture, which included the government’s now widely criticised love of targets as a policy tool. The Audit Explosion, Power’s previous Demos pamphlet, predicted that the overuse of audit leads to a focus on measurable outputs rather than real outcomes. “The most influential dimension of the audit explosion is the process by which [organisations] are made auditable and structured to conform to the need to be monitored,” Power wrote in 1994. Power’s new book argues that risk management is the ‘new audit’ and is having a similar distorting effect on the performance of professionals, companies and government.

Book Description
This is an open access book. 2023 3rd International Conference on Financial Management and Economic Transition (FMET 2023) will be held on August 18-20, 2023 in Changsha, China. At present, the global economic situation is complex, the recovery prospects are not clear, and the economic growth rate is slowing down, which is at the key stage of transforming the economic development mode and industrial transformation and upgrading. With the transformation of the mode of economic development, various problems and contradictions coexist, and the problems of imbalance, uncoordinated and unsustainable development are prominent; The contradiction between the downward pressure on economic growth and the relative overcapacity has intensified; The problems of rising production and operation costs and insufficient innovation capacity coexist; The contradiction between the slow growth of fiscal revenue and the increase of government rigid expenditure is prominent; The irrational industrial structure, the weak agricultural foundation, the increasingly acute contradiction between economic development and resources and environment, the large gap between urban and rural areas, regional development and income distribution of residents, and the obvious increase of social contradictions, which are related to the vital interests of the public; The economy and society are facing a series of opportunities and challenges. Therefore, it is expected to clarify the obstacles and obstacles to sustainable development and launch measures to deepen reform. Macroeconomic growth and its development are highly correlated with the development of enterprises at the microeconomic level. Since the outbreak of the international financial crisis, the economy, especially the real economy, has faced the current situation of declining growth rate, weak demand, rising costs and shrinking profits. The essence behind this phenomenon is the difficult problem of structural adjustment and transformation of development mode. Now, we need to transform to the path of refined and scientific management, and achieve higher labor efficiency output with less resource input and lower capital consumption, Through numerous micro-economies, we have achieved a wide-ranging transformation of growth, thus promoting the transformation of the national economy. Among them, financial management is of great significance. We sincerely invite you to participate in FMET 2023 to discuss the relationship and development direction between economic transformation and financial upgrading.
