Sanctuary: Hope and Help for Victims of Domestic Abuse
Author: Sydney Millage
Publisher: Focus Publishing (MN)
ISBN: 9781936141500
Category :
Languages : en
Pages : 224
Book Description
Oppressed, hurting women continue to look for help and safety, but there is a disconnection between their need and provision. Women are seeking help. Church leaders, many of whom are volunteers, want to help. Individuals are concerned. Why, then, are women failing to find help in local churches? What prevents our churches from effectively helping women who are abused by their husbands? The missing piece is an understanding of domestic abuse and how to apply the good news of Jesus, His Word and character to what has remained unseen, unknown, and misunderstood. "ƒ‚‚]ƒ‚‚€ƒ‚‚](Sydney Millage has) provided comprehensive hope and help for victims of domestic abuse, counselors and friends who come alongside them, and churches striving to shepherd members righteously and compassionately." Dr. Brent Aucoin, President of Faith Bible Seminary, Pastor and Counselor at Faith Church in Lafayette, IN

Book Description
With the expansion of the information age, shelter facilities which historically relied on secrecy are now having to shift their focus to security methods. Domestic Violence (DV) shelters, which until recently were unanimously secret, have begun to develop new more public models due to changes in the accessibility of information, public policies and advancements in trauma-informed design. The UC Berkeley Architecture studio course entitled On Sanctuary; Architecture Possibilities for Domestic Violence Shelters researched existing typologies and proposed new architectural potentials for designing purpose built sanctuaries in the Bay Area. Fifteen architecture undergraduate students at the University of California Berkeley's College of Environmental Design participated in the studio. The studio took the stance that as long as domestic violence exists, communities and architects must come together to support the transformation of DV facilities. This publication is a completion of the work and research done throughout the course.
