Book Description
The Routledge Companion to Interdisciplinary Studies in Singing, Volume III: Wellbeing explores the connections between singing and health, promoting the power of singing—in public policy and in practice—in confronting health challenges across the lifespan. These chapters shape an interdisciplinary research agenda that advances singing’s theoretical, empirical, and applied contributions, providing methodologies that reflect individual and cultural diversities. Contributors assess the current state of knowledge and present opportunities for discovery in three parts: Singing and Health Singing and Cultural Understanding Singing and Intergenerational Understanding In 2009, the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada funded a seven-year major collaborative research initiative known as Advancing Interdisciplinary Research in Singing (AIRS). Together, global researchers from a broad range of disciplines addressed three challenging questions: How does singing develop in every human being? How should singing be taught and used to teach? How does singing impact wellbeing? Across three volumes, The Routledge Companion to Interdisciplinary Studies in Singing consolidates the findings of each of these three questions, defining the current state of theory and research in the field. Volume III: Wellbeing focuses on this third question and the health benefits of singing, singing praises for its effects on wellbeing.

Book Description
The overarching purpose of this study was to explore the thoughts and attitudes of hospice chaplains and music therapists (MTs) related to the questions, "Is it appropriate for music therapists to provide spiritual care as part of the hospice team," "What kind of training and preparation do music therapists and chaplains think hospice music therapists should have before engaging in spiritual care work," and "What should the content be of spiritual care training for music therapists?" The study used a sequential exploratory qualitative/quantitative mixed methods design utilizing parallel purposive subject samples to examine the research questions. The first phase of the study included semi-structured interviews with eight music therapists and seven chaplains specializing in hospice care. These interviews were designed to collect in-depth information about the research questions. Each interview was recorded, transcribed, and analyzed using open coding within a grounded theory approach. Thematic analysis revealed the prevalence of the categories of "ethics" and "training." Participants discussed issues related to scope of practice, cultural competence, maintaining personal boundaries, educational content, and educational methods. Analysis of the data information also indicated the need to expand the research questions, which were examined with larger participant samples in the second phase of the study. Phase II of the study included the development and implementation of a survey tool to explore the results of Phase I with a larger group of participants.

Book Description
We are currently facing very challenging times. Through the COVID-19 pandemic, death and dying came very close to everybody, regardless of age or cultural background. Many people had to face the sudden, often unexpected passing of a dear person. Death breaks into people ́s lives, not asking, if they are prepared for it or if it is the right time. Many questions arise with this fact, and one of them often is the concern of how to die with dignity when the end of life is nearing. Dying in dignity is a concern of palliative care, which aims to care and not to cure, focusing on the life quality of a patient who is facing the last days of their life. Sound and music can play an important role in this process. This book is meant to encourage all those working in a palliative care team to consider music as a powerful tool in dealing with the challenges surrounding the end of life. The book will inspire the reader to examine the healing power of sound and music more deeply and serves as a useful support for students in palliative care approaches.
