Choosing to side with the Crown, they are forced to flee their home at the hands of neighbours and soldiers. What follows next is representative of many Loyalists’ experiences. The Eamer family is forced to make a 370-km (230-mile) trek to Montreal, where they must live in a refugee camp for three years before finally being granted their own land in the St. Lawrence Valley for their loyalty to the King. Told by one of Philip and Catrina’s descendants, Three River Valleys Called Home is historical fiction based on a real family and true events. Although some of the interactions and dialogue may be imagined, they are firmly planted in the harsh realities that many immigrants faced and pay tribute to the true grit of the settlers who built North America. While this book will have special meaning for the thousands of descendants of the Eamer family (and the other families who made up their community), their story will touch anyone with a history of immigration in their family tree.

Family history and genealogical information about the descendants of Johan August Casper (August) Ernst who was born 14 November 1809 in Heersum, Germany. He married Johanna Marie Elizabeth Schaper ca. 1843 in Germany. They became the parents of four children, immigrated to America and arrived in New Orleans, Louisiana 30 November 1857. Johanna died ca. 1865 and August married Amalia Hollinger 29 July 1867 in Illinois. They lived in Mt. Olive, Illinois. August was the father of ten children. Descendants of August Ernst lived primarily in Illinois.

Alice Frenz is a great-great-great-granddaughter of Johann Ernst, a lineage she traced during her participation in the Freistadt Historical Society of Wisconsin. Her lifetime interest in genealogy started as a young girl when she asked her father about the letters he received from relatives she had not met. Beginning with the stories he knew and compiling many more from relatives, her book traces the Ernst ancestry from 1699 in Pomerania, through their immigration to Wisconsin in 1839, their early pioneering years clearing virgin forests and establishing farmlands, as well as stories and family ties to the present day. Her book includes over a hundred photos and maps, including many well over a century old. Her Ernst ancestral tree includes over 2000 individuals.
