Book Description
Excerpt from The Descendants of Jacob Longyear of Ulster County, New York The title Of this book, The Descendants of Jacob Longyear, is, perhaps, a misnomer, for after the third generation it looks more like a history Of most other families as well as Longyear. This is the result Of following the female, as well as the male, lines of descent. Of 4309 total known descendants of the immigrant, Jacob Longyear, only 481 were born Longyear, and 3828 were born under other names. The book contains 2088 different surnames. The genealogy is far from complete, although I believe it is more nearly so than most published genealogies. It may be of interest to know that out Of 4309 known descendants, 2148 are males and 2161 are females. There have been intermarriages between descendants, varying in degree of relationship from first cousins to fourth cousins. In these cases the records Of their children have not been duplicated, but are usually found under the name Of the parent first mentioned, unless one Of the parties is a Longyear, and in that case will be found under his, or her, name.
