Book Description
Excerpt from The Decay of Magnetic Fields Suppose a system of currents has been established in a certain region. If the conductivity is everywhere either zero or infinite, the fields persist indefinitely. However, if regions of finite conductivity are present, they eventually convert all the field energy into joulean heat. Book Description
Excerpt from The Decay of a Stellar Magnetic Field The first form states that during the decay time an electromagnetic disturbance can travel a distance much larger than L; the second form states two equivalent facts: a) the conduction current is much larger than the displacement current, and b) the volume charge decays in a time very much less than the decay time. Book Description
This book presents an overview of Classical Electrodynamics. Its second edition includes new chapters that pick up where the material from the first edition left off. The image method introduced in the first edition is expanded to series of images, using simple examples like a point charge or a charged wire between two grounded plates, as well as more relevant examples such as two charged conducting spheres and the force between them. The topic of complex functions is broadened with the introduction of conformal mapping. One new chapter introduces the method of separation of variables, including in Cartesian coordinates (box with sides at fixed voltages), in spherical coordinates (dielectric and conducting sphere, potential of a charged ring), in cylindrical coordinates (conducting wedge, cylinder in uniform field). It also presents the potentials and the fields for a point charge in motion, radiation by a point charge and by a dipole, radiation reaction. Two other chapters present updated lessons on the mass of the photon and search for monopoles. Examples and/or solvable problems are provided throughout.

Book Description
This volume extends the ISSI series on magnetic fields in the Universe into the domain of what are by far the strongest fields in the Universe, and stronger than any field that could be produced on Earth. The chapters describe the magnetic fields in non-degenerate strongly magnetized stars, in degenerate stars (such as white dwarfs and neutron stars), exotic members called magnetars, and in their environments, as well as magnetic fields in the environments of black holes. These strong fields have a profound effect on the behavior of matter, visible in particular in highly variable processes like radiation in all known wavelengths, including Gamma-Ray bursts. The generation and structure of such strong magnetic fields and effects on the environment are also described.

Book Description
Excerpt from The Effects of a Magnetic Field on Radiation: Memoirs by Faraday, Kerr, and Zeeman No other attempt to show a relationship between light and magnetism seems to have been made until Faraday undertook the investigation described in the following pages.
