Book Description
The book tells the story of the day Santa Claus felt obliged to take a special trip after Christmas to fulfill the request made by a poor child. After a short holiday after Christmas, Santa Claus began preparations for toy production for the upcoming Christmas. He was aided by the elves and they all work in the secret village of Santa Claus in Lapland, Finland. Seeing the mail in the inbox, Santa Claus was surprised to find a letter that had been hidden at the bottom of the box. It was a request from a poor child. As a gift he asked for a bicycle, notebooks and pencils to study. He lived in a small house in the backcountry, far from school and could not attend classes like the other children. Santa Claus has agreed to pay a special visit to the poor boy, even though it is not Christmas, causing a stir and many surprises among the children and adults who have seen his sleigh with the reindeer pass like a comet in the sky bound for the poor boy s house. Completed his mission, Santa Claus returns to his home for his well-deserved vacation. The boy was able to start his studies in time thanks to the new off-season gifts from Santa Claus.

Book Description
This beautiful book of thirty-eight essays, illustrated by Mississippi's premier watercolorist Wyatt Waters, will ring true with treasured recollections of Christmases past. Remember the Christmas it snowed on the Mississippi Coast? Glen Allison recalls that miracle. Richard Ford and Waters tell exactly what they felt when they first laid eyes on a bicycle left under the tree by Santa Claus. These Mississippians celebrate Christmas pageants, the decorating, the family dinners—even as they recognize war and loss as part of our lives and sometimes part of our holidays. Christmas Memories from Mississippi looks at the holidays from the early twentieth century through the present and offers the celebrations from various points of view, both religious and secular. This book makes an ideal memento of shared traditions and lovingly extends the spirit of the season across the state's diversity.

Book Description
Yuletide in the Motor City No city seems to love Christmas as much as Detroit. Whether at Hudson's, or sitting at the Fox Theatre, or seeing the hundreds of dolls and live reindeer at the famous Rotunda, the city can't get enough of the holiday season. Detroiters have been celebrating Christmas for over 300 years, when the city was French and children waited for Pere Noel. As holiday traditions evolve, some endure, like Christmas trees and children writing letters to Santa. Some, such as meat pie and saying 1,000 Hail Marys for good luck, fade, and new ones--Santa at the Thanksgiving Day Parade--take their place. Local history writer Bill Loomis leads a very merry jaunt through the happiest days of Christmas in Detroit.

Book Description
"In his new book, Ask a North Korean, Daniel Tudor--a former Economist journalist and current Korean beer entrepreneur-- wants people to understand the true lives of everyday North Koreans. Using translated essays written by defectors, the book covers topics from politics to pornography." -- The Boston Globe Understanding North Korean Through the Eyes of Defectors. The weekly column Ask A North Korean, published by NK News, invites readers from around the world to pose questions to North Korean defectors. Adapted from the long-running column, these fascinating interviews provide authentic firsthand testimonies about life in North Korea and what is really happening inside the "Hermit Kingdom." North Korean contributors to this book include: "Seong" who went to South Korea after dropping out during his final year of university. He is now training to be an elementary school teacher. "Kang" who left North Korea in 2005. He now lives in London, England. "Cheol" who was from South Hamgyeong in North Korea and is now a second-year university student in Seoul. "Park" worked and studied in Pyongyang before defecting to the U.S. in 2011. He is now studying at a U.S. college. Ask A North Korean sheds critical light on all aspects of North Korean politics and society and shows that, even in the world's most authoritarian regime, life goes on in ways that are very different from what outsiders may think.
