Book Description
Excerpt from The Cycles of Speculation If we consider the matter in a gambling light, the percentage against the speculator can be determined by the proportions of com missions, interest, taxes, etc., to capital in vested. Taking commission alone as our basis, we will find that he who purchases a stock at $100 a share and pays one-quarter of one per cent. Commission, has a percentage against him of one-quarter of one per cent. If the specu lator trades on limited margins the drawback increases accordingly. If we assume that 100 shares of stock are purchased in a bucket-shop on a one point margin, without intention or ability to re-margin the transaction, the me chanical percentage is large if 10 points margin is deposited, the mechanical percent age is reduced to 21270, etc. In the first ih stance, $25 or 2570 of the $100 involved was lost when the transaction was recorded, with out any change in market price. In the second instance, $25 was again lost or 2i 27a of the involved. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. The Facts about Speculation
Author: Thomas Gibson
Publisher: Cosimo, Inc.
ISBN: 1596051248
Category : Business & Economics
Languages : en
Pages : 117
Book Description
Trying to call every market turn? Tempted to act on impulse rather than fact when investing your money? A major mistake made by most investors and traders today is to try to call every market turn - a tactic that has very little chance of success. Not only is there a tendency to lose perspective in attempting to call every trend reversal, but also we invariably exhaust our objectivity and ultimately lose touch with the markets. The Facts About Speculation is a series of warnings about the dangers of speculation by the unprepared investor. Long considered an investment classic, Thomas Gibson demonstrates superior skill in analyzing, examining and offering the most important influences on stock prices. Concentrating on human errors in speculation, he maintains that excesses of emotion are principally responsible for a majority of speculative investment decisions. THOMAS GIBSON was a prolific writer on investment and speculation, having authored several books to his credit. His skill lay in analyzing, examining, and giving his readers, in an accessible form, all the principal factors in connection with speculation and stock prices.
