The Consolidator
Author: Daniel Defoe
Publisher: Dissertations-G
ISBN:
Category : Fiction
Languages : en
Pages : 384
Book Description
In April 1705, when Defoe (1661-1731) published The Consolidator: Or, Memoirs of Sundrey Transactions from the World in the Moon: Translated from the Lunar Language by the Author of The True-Born Englishman, he was a little worried that he might end up in hiding or in jail again, whence earlier works and financial difficulties had led him. Within an imaginary voyage to the moon, he satirizes the intellectual and moral currents of the time, praises China's contribution to world knowledge tongue-in-cheek, presents a Whiggish version of the historical events of the previous 45 years, and offers his personal view of the circumstances that led to his late troubles. The significance of the edition is not explained. Full scholarly paraphernalia is provided. Annotation copyrighted by Book News Inc., Portland, OR
