Book Description
Excerpt from The Chimes, 1935, Vol. 7 The J. A. R. Rogers Memorial Art Building is the gift of the late John R. Rogers, in memory of his father, and is the climax of a long period of usefulness to Berea. Born in Roseville, Indiana, in 1856, the younger Rogers came to Berea in 1858 with his father, the first principal of the school, and lived a hard life among the pioneers. He became a trustee of the institution in 1898 and held that position until his death on February 18, 1934, at his home in Brooklyn, New York. The donor was an educator and civil engineer. The world remembers him chiefly for his service to the printing industry. He was connected with the Mergenthaler Linotype Company and patented the amazing total of about five hundred improvements on the type-setting machines now in common use in the newspaper plants of the world.
