Children's Christian Education: 12 Essentials for Effective Church Ministry to Children and Their Families fills the need for a fresh and comprehensive resource of twelve essentials for providing quality Christian education for school-age children during their first- through sixth-grade years. Each chapter addresses one of the essentials needed for the most effective Bible teaching ministry for this age group and also gives strong focus to working with the families of children-single-parent families or families with both parents in the home. Children's Christian Education: 12 Essentials for Effective Church Ministry to Children and Their Families addresses the need for an all-age Bible teaching ministry following or prior to Sunday worship. It also addresses outreach to young families and quality teaching and ministry. It gives help for getting the support of the pastor, staff, and congregation for this age group. The resource emphasizes that all are called-lay teachers and workers as well as the pastor and staff. As servant leaders, the pastor and staff have the unique call and roles to equip laypeople for their call to minister within the congregation and beyond. This book is part of a series that provides the essentials for effective church ministry to all age groups, as follows: Preschool Christian Education; Children's Christian Education; Youth/Collegiate Christian Education; and Adult Christian Education.

Excerpt from The Christian Education of Children and Youth In the General Assembly of 1839, the following Resolution was adopted, viz: "Resolved, That the Rev. Samuel Miller, Archibald Alexander, Charles Hodge, J. Addison Alexander, and James Carnahan, be a committee to inquire whether any, and, if any, what measures ought to be adopted for securing to the children and young people of our Church more full advantages of Christian education than they have hitherto enjoyed." In pursuance of the foregoing appointment, the following Report was presented to the General Assembly, at their sessions in 1840, by the chairman of the committee, the Rev. Samuel Miller, D. Building on the success of his 1992 collection Foundations of Ministry (over 17,000 sold), Michael Anthony offers Introducing Christian Education to fill the need in the C.E. curriculum for an introductory foundations textbook--one that provides an overview and understanding of the broad range of subjects included in C.E.--for college and seminary use. Thirty-one chapters are offered under the following sections: 1) Foundations of C.E.; 2) Developmental Perspectives of C.E.; 3) Educational Implications of C.E.; 4) Organization, Administration, and Leadership; 5) C.E. Applied to the Family; and 6) Specialized Ministries. Contributors include Robert PazmiƱo, Jim Wilhoit, Julie Gorman, Klaus Issler, and Ted Ward. FROM THE FOREWORD BY LESTER C. BLANK JR. Introducing Christian Education will become a major resource text for church leaders and Christian education leaders who are professors of Christian education. It will be a valuable resource in my personal library. The desired outcome will be Psalm 78:72: "He cared for them with a true heart and led them with skillful hands."
