Book Description
"In the following I take for granted the theological basis of the Catholic ecumenical movement. We believe that the Catholic Church is the one true Church of Jesus Christ, united to him as his earthly body; but we also believe that men outside the Church in good faith who confess Jesus Christ as God and Saviour and are baptized in water and the Holy Ghost are truly Christian, reborn in Christ, alive in the Spirit, and hence, despite their separation, our Christian brethren. I take for granted in these pages that Christian faith and supernatural charity are found in communities beyond the visible boundaries of the Catholic Church, and that Christians guiltlessly separated from us have access to sacramental grace and spiritual life...This book is not written simply to give information. It is also a plea. Its purpose is to create a sense of urgency among Catholics. There is so much we can do for Christian unity, even as lay people. We must find new dimensions of Christian charity; we must discover a new vision of the Church's ecumenical task; and we must pray and suffer for unity knowing that these are the mainsprings of any renewal in the Church." Book Description
Catholics, Orthodox and Protestants have in many ways moved from diatribe to dialogue. Conversations among theologians have achieved significant progress on many issues in the half century since the Catholic Church entered the ecumenical movement in earnest. In CHRISTIAN UNITY – THE NEXT STEP ‘THAT THEY MAY ALL BE ONE’ Kevin E. Mackin, OFM, a popular priest and former college president and professor, delves into and shares his studies on recent Church history and theology, and posits that the time is ripe for more real-world Christian collaboration and service, for further internal reform, and for a third ecumenical Council.

Book Description
By all accounts, the modern ecumenical movement is not moving much these days. Despite dramatic breakthroughs in the past few decades, the quest for a visibly united church--in which there is common confession of the apostolic faith, full Eucharistic communion, and mutual recognition of members and ministers--now meets with indifference by many, impatience by some, and outright hostility by others. In part, this is because the movement has not given enough attention to grassroots ecumenical engagement. This book is written to convince ordinary Christians, especially young Christian adults, that they too have a stake in the future of the ecumenical movement as its most indispensable participants. Ecumenism Means You, Too draws on the music of Irish rock band U2 to cast artistic light on various aspects of the quest for Christian unity. Whether one is a U2 fan or not, and whether one thinks the ecumenical movement is a good thing or a bad thing for the church, everyone who reads this book will learn something about the Christian theological framework apart from which neither the modern ecumenical movement nor the meaning of U2's music can be understood. The book includes an annotated bibliography of resources for ecumenical engagement and a glossary of key ecumenical terms for readers who want to learn more about the Christian practice of seeking the unity of the church.
