In 1937, they started out as the Dead End Kids, a group of young hooligans from the slums of New York's East River, appearing in several films for Warner Brothers. A year later, Universal borrowed most of the group and cast them in films and serials, under the names of the Little Tough Guys and the Dead End Kids and the Little Tough Guys. In 1939, the group went to Monogram and became the East Side Kids. Then, in 1946, it happened. The East Side Kids were revamped and The Bowery Boys were born.
