Book Description
Excerpt from Bible d104-Book and the Bible Student's Manual: The Principal d104s Relating to the Persons, Places, and Subjects Occurring in the Scriptures Of all the methods of Bible study the topical method is the most fascinating and the one that yields the largest immediate results. It should not be one's only method of study, for one cannot get a grasp of the Bible as a whole and of its entire contents by topical study. Only the old-fashioned method of consecutive study of the Bible, beginning at the first chapter of Genesis and going through the entire Old Testament, and beginning at the first chapter of Mat thew and going through the entire New Testament, will ever enable one to cover the whole range of Bible truth and to see things in their proper proportions. This consecutive study of the Bible is prob ably done most satisfactorily by what is called the Chapter Summary method of study. In addition to that, there should be a thorough analytic and synthetic study of the Bible by books. That is the method that requires the hardest work, but yields the largest per manent results. But for the one who has but little time each day foi the study of the Word, the topical method of study will prove the most fascinat ing and lead to the largest immediate results. For such topical study a Bible text-book is the only book absolutely needed beside the Bible. As to Bibles, one should have not only the Authorized version, but a Revised version as well. The topical method of study was the one Mr. Moody always recommended wherever he went. Tens of thousands of people were stirred up to Bible study by the emphasis that Mr. Moody laid upon this method of study, and the Bible became to them a new book. If any Christian will give fifteen minutes a day to thorough topical study he will be astonished at the results achieved, not only in his understanding of the truth, but in his growth in Christian experience and character. The studying, however, must be done every day, and it must be real study. One must not try to see how much ground he can cover in a short time. There is no greater enemy to profitable Bible study than hurry. It is the one who meditates on the Word of God, not the one who merely hurries through it, upon whom God has pronounced a bless ing (psa.
