Book Description
This study examines the three major wood pellet markets in Asia: China, Japan, and South Korea. In contrast to the United States, where most wood pellets are used for residential heating with pellet stoves, a majority of the wood pellets in Asia are used for co-firing at coal-fired power plants. Our analysis indicated that Japan is the largest importer of wood pellets in Asia and that most of the pellets it consumes are used for co-firing at power plants. South Korean wood pellet imports are fairly small; however, South Korea is striving to increase its percentage of renewable energy, which could benefit the wood pellets industry. We found that China, the largest energy consumer in Asia, has an established wood pellet market. However, a majority of these wood pellets are manufactured in China, thus imports are minimal. A consistent factor in these nations is that their governments are promoting renewable energy, leading to policies that are driving demand for wood pellets. As these countries strive to meet their renewable energy targets, their wood pellet consumption is projected to grow.

Book Description
Wood pellet, a modern densified biomass with strategic importance has a crucial role for the increased use of renewable energy and could make a significant contribution in reducing green house gas emissions in Europe. The wood pellet markets are booming in Europe because the importance of wood pellets in producing heat and power generation has increased over the past few decades. During the last two decades many different initiatives have been launched and policy instruments employed in different countries to develop the wood pellet sector, some of which have been successful for the development of pellet markets. This study explains the current pellet market development on the basis of policy mechanisms in the European Union (EU) and ten EU countries. The result of the study shows that different policy instruments employed at national level influenced the pellet market growth but the growth is different in different countries. The results of the study can be significantly important to the policy makers and academia to plan further research on policy development for future pellet market development.

Book Description
Traditional fuels - oil, gas and coal - are non-renewable energy sources, thus the world is looking for alternative fuels. Bioenergy is coming with a fast paste into the picture. Russia's prospects in the processing of bioenergy are almost unlimited, as the stocks of raw materials are huge. Pellets are a type of wood fuel that is produced from compacted sawdust under high pressure, without chemical fixers. The purpose of this study is to aid Russian companies in entering the Finish market, by studying the prices, the market, the cultural differences and providing a penetration scheme of imported Russian pellets to Finland. Taking into account the price comparison, there is a clear prove that there is a big potential for Russian companies to enter the Finish wood pellet market in terms of the price difference. As an advantage, pellets are much greener than traditional fuels: 10 - 50 times less carbon dioxide emissions into the air. In today's world one of the most important challenges is to preserve the earth environment that would ensure a safe and comfortable future.

Book Description
Developing the Global Bioeconomy: Technical, Market, and Environmental Lessons from Bioenergy brings together expertise from three IEA-Bioenergy subtasks on pyrolysis, international trade, and biorefineries to review the bioenergy sector and draw useful lessons for the full deployment of the bioeconomy. Despite the vast amount of politically driven strategies, there is little understanding on how current markets will transition towards a global bioeconomy. The question is not only how the bioeconomy can be developed, but also how it can be developed sustainably in terms of economic and environmental concerns. To answer this question, this book’s expert chapter authors seek to identify the types of biorefineries that are expected to be implemented and the types of feedstock that may be used. They also provide historical analysis of the developments of biopower and biofuel markets, integration opportunities into existing supply chains, and the conditions that would need to be created and enhanced to achieve a global biomass trade system that could support a global bioeconomy. As expectations that a future bioeconomy will rely on a series of tradable commodities, this book provides a central accounting of the state of the discussion in a multidisciplinary approach that is ideal for research and academic experts, and analysts in all areas of the bioenergy, biofuels, and bioeconomy sectors, as well as those interested in energy policy and economics. Examines the lessons learned by the bioenergy industry and how they can be applied to the full development of the bioeconomy Explores different transition strategies and how the current fossil based and future bio-based economy are intertwined Reviews the status of current biomass conversion pathways Presents an historical analysis of the developments of biopower and biofuel markets, integration opportunities into existing supply chains, and the conditions that would need to be created and enhanced to achieve a global biomass trade system

Book Description
The production of wood pellets has increased dramatically in recent years due in large part to aggressive emissions policy in the European Union; the main markets that currently supply the European market are North America and Russia. However, current market circumstances and trade dynamics could change depending on the development of emerging markets, foreign exchange rates, and the evolution ofcarbon policies. This fact sheet outlines the existing and potential participants in the wood pellets market, along with historical data on production, trade, and prices.
