Book Description
This interim report presents the results of intensive archaeological and geomorphic investigations at 14 special use or recreation areas at Coralville Lake, Iowa. The investigations were conducted with the objective of providing sufficient information to develop a memorandum of agreement for future cultural resources activities on site specific bases. The report is a companion to an earlier interim report which details the results of a sample survey at Coralville Lake. The recreation area survey coverage encompassed approximately 5200 acres bringing the total survey coverage for the project area to a level of 40.0%. Data from the sample survey and recreation area survey have been compiled in compatible formats and have been entered into a geographic information system that will ultimately be applied for a comprehensive cultural resources management plan for Coralville Lake. This plan will be completed following conclusion of a Geomorphic/Stratigraphic study of the project locality.

Book Description
Management Phases O-I entail development of a management data base for Coralville Lake and the completion of a 20% stratified random sample survey of the project area. In addition to these two primary tasks, ancillary work included test excavations at 5 archaeological sites, none of which are considered eligible for The National Register of Historic Places. Finally, the results of both literature and archives search and field investigations related to the surficial geology of the project locality are incorporated in this interim report. A total of 1858 hectares comprising 21.5% of the Coralville Lake project area was subjected to archaeological survey. Sixty-four previously unrecorded sites were found within the sample units. Twenty-five previously reported sites, located within the sample units were revisited. New site boundaries were determined and additional cultural materials were collected. Information from field and lab-based investigations were incorporated within the automated data management system.

Book Description
The investigations were undertaken following submittal of a technical proposal in response to a request for proposals. Major work elements include literature and archives investigation, field work consisting of valley transects and excavation units, backhoe trenches, and core and auger investigations, laboratory study consisting of particle size analyses, organic matter content, radiocarbon assay, and subsequent report preparation. Finally, the resulting model of landscape evolution was correlated with anticipated archaeological resources at Coralville Lake and a predictive model of site location was generated. The resulting management tool incorporates the distribution of various landforms at Coralville lake, their age and an accompanying discussion of processes of formation, degradation, and burial. Emphases are placed upon identifying landscape of known age and extent and the potential for encountering archaeological sites on these landscapes. These data are then integrated within the broader management plan goals and responsibilities.

Book Description
The lessons learned from this flood focus on the performance of the levees, governmental responses, the effects of flood fighting, change in stages due to levee breaches, flood modeling, and the lack of information dissemination to the public on the technical aspects of the flood. These lessons point out information gaps and the need for research in the areas of hydraulics and hydrology, meteorology, sediment transport and sedimentation, surface and ground-water interactions, water quality, and levees. The report presents a comprehensive summary of the 1993 flood as far as climate, hydrology, and hydraulics are concerned.
