Book Description
The Adaptation Diet presents a plan clinically proven to lower levels of cortisol, the main stress hormone and a major component of the obesity epidemic. By reducing excess cortisol, you can: • Decrease your risk for diabetes, heart disease, cancer, and high blood pressure • Lose the fat around your midsection and increase your lean muscle mass • Improve your ability to adapt to emotional and situational stress Dr. Charles Moss takes readers through a three-step program—detoxification, elimination of common food allergens, and the implementation of an anti-inflammatory diet—with specific advice on the avoidance of toxins and the inclusion of key bioactive, cortisol-controlling foods and nutrients such as flaxseed powder, cold water fish, specialized herbs, and vitamins. In addition, using the newly emerging science of epigenetics, he explains how diet and environment influence our biological destiny, and he provides more than 100 delicious recipes, as well as menu plans, for life-long control of biochemical stress. You’ll learn which foods protect gene expression and help reduce your risk for obesity as well as how to protect your children’s gene expression before they are even born. By following the right dietary suggestions, we can change ourselves right down to our genes and reduce our chances for disease.

Book Description
Imagine naturally occurring toxic substances that are responsible for chronic disease and accelerated aging. When trying to discover why patients with diabetes are prone to complications such as heart disease, Dr. Helen Vlassara and her research team focused on compounds called advanced glycation end products, or AGEs, which enter the body through the diet. For years, these amazing studies remained virtually unknown to the public. Now, renowned researchers Dr. Vlassara and Dr. Gary Striker, and best-selling author Sandra Woodruff have written a complete guide to understanding AGEs and avoiding their harmful effects through the careful selection of foods and cooking techniques. Part One of Dr. Vlassara's AGE-Less Diet clearly explains what AGEs are, how they enter your body, and how they contribute to the development of chronic disease, including diabetes, cardiovascular disease, kidney disease, dementia, obesity, and more. Most important, you'll learn how you can reduce AGEs and improve your health by making simple changes in the way you eat. Part Two offers over a hundred taste-tempting AGE-less recipes that show you just how easy--and delicious--it is to follow an AGE-less diet. By lowering your AGE levels, you can reduce the potential of developing any number of serious disorders and enjoy greater health. Dr. Vlassara's AGE-Less Diet will guide you in making a real difference in your life.

Book Description
Believe it or not, our DNA is almost exactly the same as that of our ancestors. While scientific advances in agriculture, medicine, and technology have protected man, to some degree, from dangers such as starvation, illness, and exposure, the fact remains that our cave-dwelling cousins were considerably healthier than we are. Our paleolithic ancestors did not suffer from heart disease, diabetes, high blood pressure, or obesity. In fact, a good deal of what we view as normal aging is a modern condition that is more akin to disease than any natural state of growing older. Our predecessors were incomparably better nourished than we are, and were incredibly physically fit. And certainly none of them ever craved a doughnut, let alone tasted one. In fact, the human preference for sweet tastes and fatty textures was developed in an environment where such treats were rare, and signaled dense, useful energy. This once-helpful adaptation is the downfall of many a dieter today. It's what makes it hard to resist fats and sweets, especially when they are all around us. We are not living as we were built to live. Our genes were forged in an environment where activity was mandatory—you were active or you starved or were eaten. This created strong selective pressure for genes encoding a smart, physically adept individual capable of very high activity levels. Humans are among the most active of species, and we carry energetically expensive brains to boot. Our energy expenditures rank high among all animals. At least they once did. The New Evolution Diet by Arthur De Vany, PhD is a roadmap back to the better health our ancestors once enjoyed. By eliminating modern foods, including carbohydrates, dairy, and all processed foods from our diets, we can undo much of the damage caused by our modern food environment. The plan is based on three simple principles: 1. Enjoy the pleasure of food and do not count or restrict calories. Eat three satisfying meals a day filled with non-starchy vegetables, fruits, and high-quality, lean proteins 2. Do not starve yourself, but do go hungry episodically, for brief periods, to promote a low fasting blood insulin level and increase metabolic fat-burning. 3. Exercise less, not more, but with more playfulness and intensity. The goal is to create a strong body with a high resting metabolism and a large physiologic capacity to move through life easily—not to burn calories.

Book Description
Two questions could not be avoided in the avant-propos of this book; (i) what is the importance to man of ruminant livestock, and (ii) what results of practical relevance in the growing mountain of scientific verbiage could be found in the Proceedings of this Symposium. Herbivores are an integral and critical part of the natural ecosystem which must be preserved because of their impact on human welfare. Wh at makes ruminants especially important to man is that they can thrive on fibrous forage and are thus the only viable enterprise over much of the earth's surface where crop growing is impracti cable. They contribute a wide array of products in addition to 50000 000 tonnes ofmeat (1977) and represent a 'capital reserve' that can be drawn upon in times of emergency: milk for example (450000000 tonnes) can make the difference between subsistence and starvation. About 60% of the world's meat and 80 % of the milk are produced by one third of the world ruminant population in the developed regions and as much as 99 % of the power for agriculture is provided by the ruminant population in developing countries. For the next two decades, a probable increase by 30 % for . cattle and buffalo and more than 40 % for sheep and goats is expected by improving health, fertility, nutrition and genetic potential rather than feed resources.

Book Description
This diet-guide parody shows "extra furry" cats how to get svelte with kitty-specific versions of popular weight-loss and fitness regimes like the Zone, South Beach, Mayo Clinic, and French Women Don't Get Fat (But Their Cats Do). Americans own more than 86 million cats, and the wild popularity of cat videos--from YouTube to the Internet Cat Video Film Festival--proves that cat-lovers can't get enough kitty humor. This book pokes fun at tubby tabbies--the world's cutest (and surliest) fat creatures--with laugh-out-loud details that will tickle the funnybone of anyone "owned" by a cat. Lampooning trendy weight-loss regimes and health gurus, this book will also make people feel better about their own battle of the bulge in comparison to cats' insatiable appetites and lazy lifestyles. By eating right for their blood type, sourcing raw and living foods, joining Weight Stalkers, avoiding toxic treats, and exercising while lying down, felines of every shape (round) and size (round) will soon be motivated to ditch the fifth serving of Beef Morsels in Gravy for fresh, local options like that vole in the backyard.

Book Description
Nutrition has long been considered more the domain of medicine and agriculture than of the biological sciences, yet it touches and shapes all aspects of the natural world. The need for nutrients determines whether wild animals thrive, how populations evolve and decline, and how ecological communities are structured. 'The Nature of Nutrition' addresses nutrition's enormously complex role in biology, both at the level of individual organisms and in their broader ecological interactions.
