Book Description
About John While each of the Gospels presents Christ with a distinct emphasis, the Gospel of John focuses on his greatness—as the timeless Creator-God of the universe, as the Word made flesh, as the gracious lover of our souls, and as the only way to the Father. Instead of detailing the facts and events of Jesus' earthly life, as the other Gospel writers did, John concentrates on the meaning of his words and the message of his works, clearly presenting him as the long-awaited Messiah with one mission in mind: to do the work of the Father who sent him. a Follow along with pastor Kent Hughes in this engaging commentary as he leads you through this magnificent book of the Bible. His careful exposition and wise application will guide you to a richer understanding of not only God's greatness, but of his great goodness to us all. Part of the Preaching the Word series.

Book Description
John may be the most artful and poetic of the gospels; it demands and rewards study of its literary shape, the power of its metaphors (eg - "I am's), Jesus' deep discourses, and the beauty of his unfolding passion throughout its chapters. Jesus, the Word made flesh, emerges powerfully and personally, so it is no surprise that John sums up his Gospel's message as "so that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in his name" (John 20:31). John offers a theologically deep answer and a compelling historical narrative as to the identity and purpose of God's anointed Son. - Publisher.

Book Description
The Knowing the Bible series is a new resource designed to help Bible readers better understand and apply God’s Word. Each 12-week study leads participants through one book of the Bible and is made up of four basic components: (1) Reflection questions designed to help readers engage the text at a deeper level; (2) “Gospel Glimpses” highlighting the gospel of grace throughout the book; (3) “Whole-Bible Connections” showing how any given passage connects to the Bible’s overarching story of redemption culminating in Christ; and (4) “Theological Soundings” identifying how historic orthodox doctrines are taught or reinforced throughout Scripture. With contributions from a wide array of influential pastors and church leaders, these gospel-centered studies will help Christians see and cherish the message of God’s grace on each and every page of the Bible. In this study of John’s Gospel, pastor and author Justin Buzzard helps readers understand the most theologically and philosophically profound account of Jesus’s life, death, and resurrection in the New Testament. From revealing his cosmic identity as being with the Father “in the beginning,” to recounting the many miraculous signs attesting to his divinity, Buzzard illuminates John’s unmatched portrait of Jesus Christ, the unique Son of God, sent from heaven to save all who would turn to him. This insightful guide encourages Christians to worship Christ as Lord and follow him on mission to the world.

Book Description
IN the Gospel of Saint John there are two things of importance, the substance of the book and the object for which it was written. In the substance of the book we have a nearly unique account of the works and words of Jesus, with the evangelist's profound deductions. With the substance of the book the reader is apt to become quite familiar. He reads John's Gospel, as he reads the synoptic Gospels, for the sacred story and the lessons that lie upon the surface. But the average reader is exceedingly apt to miss the object of the book. If we are not greatly mistaken, very few readers can tell offhand why John wrote the book at all. Yet Saint John is careful to state the object of his book. "These things are written, that ye may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God; and that believing ye may have life through his name" (20:31); just as near the close of his First Epistle, he states the object of that little tract, "These things have I written unto you, that ye may know that ye have eternal life, even unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God" (1 John 5:13). Thus the Epistle completes the argument of the Gospel. In a former treatise entitled That Ye May Know we attempted to trace the line of argument of the Epistle; in the present treatise we attempt to do the same for the Gospel, by tracing John's argument, proving that Jesus is indeed the Christ, the Son of God, and the grounds given for such belief in Christ that we may have life through his name. Trusting that the purpose of the Gospel of John may be realized by many readers, that they may be led to accept Jesus as the Christ, the Son of God, and find eternal life through faith in his name, this little book is sent forth.

Book Description
There are certain books of the Bible that just seem to stand out and the Gospel of John is surely one such book. It is frequently the first book of the Bible we encourage non-Christians to read in the hope that its message will lead them to faith in Christ. After all, that is the purpose of the book. See John 20:31.For Christians, the Gospel of John is a source of much truth about our Lord and the Gospel. But it is much more than that. It is an opportunity for us to follow Him as we read, and to identify with the disciples as their knowledge of Him continues to expand. It is our opportunity to get to know the heart of the Savior, and to fellowship with Him through His Word. If men of old found their hearts set on fire as they listened to Him teach in person (Luke 24:32), so we will find our hearts warmed as we seek to listen to Him through this Gospel.I challenge you to join me in making the Gospel of John the subject of your study. May God use it to help you see and serve Jesus Christ as the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world (John 1:29).

Book Description
The Gospel of John, more than any other, contains the central message of the Gospel. In it are found answers to questions such as, "What does it mean to believe? What is the new birth? How can I be saved?" This commentary takes a close look at the context and teachings of John's testament of his time with Jesus. Written by an ordinary Christian, "That You May Believe" is designed to appeal to the everyday reader with little to no knowledge of the Bible or the original languages in which it was written. At the end is a handy study guide, with questions designed to help you think more deeply about John's gospel and apply its many teachings to your life.

Book Description
"Blessed are those who have not seen and yet believe." John wrote his gospel to give the world something in which to believe. In John 20:30, he says "Jesus performed many other signs in the presence of his disciples that are not written in this book." He further explains in 21:25 that he estimates that if everything Jesus did were recorded that all the books in all the libraries in the world couldn't hold what would be written. So, why did John include these things in these 21 chapters? The key is the word he uses "signs". John picked events, actions, miraculous and mundane, things that together would show us, give us a sign, a token, a revelation, in which we can place the full weight of our trust, the word we use is faith. And faith in Jesus, results in salvation and reconciliation with God. To all who receive him, he gave the right to become the children of God, to those who believe in his name, John 1:12. So, how are we going to make that shift in faith, under the power and prompting of the Holy Spirit? John 20:31 these are written so that you may believe that Jesus is the Messiah, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in his name.My sermons in John's gospel are collected in three volumes. "Written in Flesh" introduces the Word who became flesh and dwelt among us and by his very presence called us to understand that God had come to make us new and make us right, chapters 1-3. Beginning in chapter 4 continuing through chapter 12, we see his public ministry, "That You May Believe". Then finally, beginning in chapter 13 through the end, we have book 3 as Jesus is crucified, resurrected, and commissions us, "That You May Have Life". I pray that these books will inspire you to know the Person, Potential, and the Purpose of the Son of God, the force behind all of life, come among us, to bring us to God.
