Book Description
This new catalogue of the paintings of Camille Pissarro, while drawing extensively on the 1939 edition published by his son, makes an innovative contribution to the understanding of the work of this great artist through the discovery of previously unpublished pictures and documents. Over a career that spanned the second half of the 19th century, Pissarro tested every pictorial experiment of his time, from Impressionism to Pointillism. His rich style reveals the gifts of a great colorist and of a master of light endowed with a striking sensitivity to nature. This exhaustive 3-volume catalogue, co-published with the Wildenstein Institute, features 1528 paintings--of which 213 have never been published or are little known--detailed commentaries with rigorous analyses of each work, a complete biography of the artist, illustrated with archival photographs, a bibliography and a complete list of exhibitions.

Book Description
Jozef Israels (1824-1911), famous for his portrayals of life in Holland's fishing villages and of scenes from Jewish and peasant life, was the eminence grise of the Hague School. Contemporaries saw him as a latterday Rembrandt, whose art gave his subjects a voice. This representative and extensive survey of his life and work marks the 175th anniversary of Israels's birth. Over one hundred paintings, watercolors, drawings, and etchings are illustrated in color and discussed. Many of these works, drawn from public and private collections in Holland and abroad, have not been exhibited for years. The introductory essays focus on Israels's career and artistic development, his affinity with Rembrandt, and his Jewish background.

Book Description
This book offers a unique overview of Dutch 18th century art, drawing on the vast collections of the Rijksmuseum, Amsterdam. The art production of this period is demonstrated through art works of both well-known and lesser-known artists including Cornelis Troost, Nicolaas Verkolje, Willem van Mieris, Jan Baptist Xavery, Jacob van Strij and many others. It also examines the flourishing artisan trade in the form of furniture, silver, sculptures and faience from the factories in Delft and Weesp. This edition moreover provides information on the historical context, the world of the artist, the art collectors and the costumes of the 18th century."

Book Description
This catalog and the exhibit it represents (seen in Rotterdam, Lyons, and Paris during 1997) focuses on Kees van Dongen's early work on paper, filling lacunae left by exhibits of later work mounted during the past nine years. The artist (1877-1968) was a Dutch painter who migrated to Paris and is known for his colorful Fauvist canvases, his portraits of international figures and the Parisian beau monde, and for his female nudes. Curator Hopmans' interpretive commentary on the artist's development from draughtsman to painter accompanies the visual catalogue featuring full-page and smaller reproductions. 9.5x12.5"Annotation copyrighted by Book News, Inc., Portland, OR
