Excerpt from Tenth Annual Report of the Trustees of the State Lunatic Hospital at Northampton: October 1865 It having been found that very serious inconveniences arose from the custom of keeping the cupola Open to visitors, it was closed in November last, greatly to the relief Of our household, as well as to the promotion of that quietude and comparative isolation which are among the first necessities of a good hospi tal for the insane. The number of visitors in' the warm season has thus been diminished more than one-half. Those who now come are persons having business to transact, or rela tions to visit, or some interest in the important purpose for which the hospital was erected. Such are always welcome.
