Book Description
As a result of recent developments in aeronautics and ordnance, a need has arisen for tables of properties of the atmosphere at altitudes in excess of those covered by the existing standard tables (NACA Report No. 218). In order to satisfy this need, the National Advisory Committee for Aeronautics has adopted three temperature-height relationships and one composition-height relationship, and tables based oupon them have been prepared for pertinent properties of the upper atmosphere (from 20 to 120 kilometers in metric units, and from 65,000 to 393,700 feet in British units). In the absence of direct data, such as might be obtained by soundings with high-altitude rockets, the values adopted are based upon existing information obtained by indirect methods of certain quantities. As a consequence, the tables are only tentative.

Book Description
Charts are presented to show the pressure rise that is obtainable in an engine-cooling installation with a typical airfoil-type propeller-speed fan. The charts cover fans of the stator-rotor, rotor-stator, and rotor alone configurations, with blades incorporating both the highly cambered 65-series blower-blade sections and the conventional low-cambered airfoil sections. The effects of operation of a geared fan with rotational speeds limited by compressibility considerations and the effects of initial rotational inflow are indicated. Use of the charts to predict the pressure rise obtainable with any fan of the types considered is illustrated in a sample calculation.

Book Description
The Upper Atmosphere: Meteorology and Physics focuses on the study of the characteristics, movements, composition, and observations of the upper atmosphere. The book first offers information on the meteorological conditions in the lower stratosphere and the structure and circulation of the upper stratosphere and the mesosphere. Topics include balloon sounding systems, climatology of the lower stratosphere, disturbed circulation of the lower stratosphere, rocket measurements, and frequent measurements with balloons and meteorological rockets. The text then ponders on the sun's radiation and the upper atmosphere and composition of the stratosphere and mesosphere. The manuscript elaborates on the composition and structure of the thermosphere, including photochemical processes, diffusion, composition and structure measurements, and structure of the thermosphere. The text also ponders on radiative processes and heat transfer; atmospheric tides and winds in the lower thermosphere; and transport of properties in the upper atmosphere. The publication is a valuable source of information for readers interested in the meteorology and physics of the upper atmosphere.
