Book Description
Sometimes the gift of free will does not seem like God has done us a favor. God has given us free will, but what is God's will in our lives? To seek God's will, we must get to know God. This book helps us to explore the will of God not as an end in itself, but as the path to freedom; not the freedom of autonomy, but the freedom of love. The author takes the reader on a lovely journey through ten evenings with God and examines prayer as a relationship with God, the importance of solitude for listening to God, and the use of the senses in discerning God's presence in our lives. Each of the ten chapters deals with a different way to see God's will, including understanding that God's love is the foundation for His will. Each chapter ends with guiding questions designed to help readers reflect upon their relationship with God. Everyone must make hard choices in life, and sometimes it is difficult to understand God's will when making life-changing decisions. This book reinforces the simple fact that God is love and out of this love flows all of life. View sample pages. "Paperback"

The No Club
Author: Linda Babcock
Publisher: Simon and Schuster
ISBN: 1982152354
Category : Business & Economics
Languages : en
Pages : 320
Book Description
In this “long overdue manifesto on gender equality in the workplace, a practical playbook with tips you can put into action immediately…simply priceless” (Angela Duckworth, bestselling author of Grit), The No Club offers a timely solution to achieving equity at work: unburden women’s careers from work that goes unrewarded. The No Club started when four women, crushed by endless to-do lists, banded together to get their work lives under control. Running faster than ever, they still trailed behind male colleagues. And so, they vowed to say no to requests that pulled them away from the work that mattered most to their careers. This book reveals how their over-a-decade-long journey and subsequent groundbreaking research showing that women everywhere are unfairly burdened with “non-promotable work,” a tremendous problem we can—and must—solve. All organizations have work that no one wants to do: planning the office party, screening interns, attending to that time-consuming client, or simply helping others with their work. A woman, most often, takes on these tasks. In study after study, professors Linda Babcock (bestselling author of Women Don’t Ask), Brenda Peyser, Lise Vesterlund, and Laurie Weingart—the original “No Club”—document that women are disproportionately asked and expected to do this work. The imbalance leaves women overcommitted and underutilized as companies forfeit revenue, productivity, and top talent. The No Club walks you through how to change your workload, empowering women to make savvy decisions about the work they take on. The authors also illuminate how organizations can reassess how they assign and reward work to level the playing field. With hard data, personal anecdotes from women of all stripes, self- and workplace-assessments for immediate use, and innovative advice from the authors’ consulting Fortune 500 companies, this book will forever change the conversation about how we advance women’s careers and achieve equity in the 21st century.

The Undressing: Poems
Author: Li-Young Lee
Publisher: W. W. Norton & Company
ISBN: 0393635015
Category : Poetry
Languages : en
Pages : 97
Book Description
“Immediate, sensual, unrelentingly intense.” —NPR A breathtaking volume about the violence of desire and the peace of love from celebrated poet Li-Young Lee, The Undressing is a tonic for spiritual anemia; it attempts to uncover things hidden since the dawn of the world. Short of achieving that end, these mysterious, unassuming poems investigate the human violence and dispossession increasingly prevalent around the world, and the horrors the poet grew up with as a child of refugees. Lee draws from disparate sources including the Old Testament, the Dao De Jing, and the music of the Wu-Tang Clan. While the ostensive subjects of these layered, impassioned poems are wide-ranging, their driving engine is a burning need to understand our collective human mission.

God Had Mercy on Me: The Life & Work of George Müller
Author: George Müller
Publisher: DigiCat
ISBN:
Category : Religion
Languages : en
Pages : 1931
Book Description
DigiCat presents to you this meticulously edited George Müller collection. "The word of God alone is our standard of judgment in spiritual things... the Holy Spirit alone can teach us about our state by nature, show us the need of a Saviour, enable us to believe in Christ, explain to us the Scriptures, help us in preaching, etc. The first evening that I shut myself into my room, to give myself to prayer and meditation over the Scriptures, I learned more in a few hours than I had done during a period of several months previously. But the particular difference was, that I received real strength for my soul in doing so." George Müller (1805-1898) was a Christian evangelist and the director of the Ashley Down orphanage in Bristol, England. He cared for 10,024 orphans during his lifetime, and provided educational opportunities for the orphans to the point that he was even accused by some of raising the poor above their natural station in British life. He established 117 schools which offered Christian education to more than 120,000. The theology that guided George Müller's work was shaped by an experience in his middle twenties when he "came to prize the Bible alone as his standard of judgement". Müller wrote frequently about the stewardship of money and the non-reliance on earthly riches, and how God would bless the man who kept to these principles, and felt that laying his own experiences bare would prove the truth of his claims. His personal income, from unsolicited gifts (he refused any kind of salary) rose from £151 in 1831 to more than £2,000 in 1870. However, he retained only around £300 a year for himself and his family, the rest he gave away. Müller's faith in God strengthened day by day and he spent hours in daily prayer and Bible reading. Content: Paths to Power The Pursuit of God The Divine Conquest How to be Filled with the Holy Spirit The Root of the Righteous The Knowledge of the Holy
