Biomechanics of Sport and Exercise
Author: Peter Merton McGinnis
Publisher: Human Kinetics
ISBN: 9780736051019
Category : Education
Languages : en
Pages : 434
Book Description
Biomechanics of Sport and Exercise, Second Edition, introduces exercise and sport biomechanics in concise terms rather than focusing on complex math and physics. This book helps students learn to appreciate external forces and their effects, how the body generates forces to maintain position, and how forces create movement in physical activities.

Optimal Release Parameters for the Javelin Throw in Competition
Author: Scott G. Blanchard
Publisher:
ISBN:
Category : Aerodynamics
Languages : en
Pages : 50
Book Description
This thesis examines the optimal release parameters for the javelin throw in competition. Methods: Twenty-five female javelin throwers were videotaped during competition. By using wind gauges and computer analysis and statistical inference four major parameters of the javelin throw were observed: the velocity, pitch angle, release angle, angle of attack as well as wind effect. Results: The data compiled shows that release velocity is significant to the distance at an alpha level of .05 with an 0.90 correlation. Release angle and velocity show a significant correlation. By looking at the release angle's correlation to velocity, the weight of the javelin isn't a contributing factor. Some studies indicate that it is due to the biomechanics of the muscles that influence the release speed at different angles. The wind is also shown to be a significant factor in the range of throw. By comparing the actual throw distance with the calculated ballistic throw there is a difference of 6.5 meters favoring the actual throw distance over the calculated. Conclusion: The results lead to the conclusion that release velocity is significant, but other technical aspects will help an athlete have a winning throw. This includes focusing on an optimal release angle through video analysis during practice, and encouraging athletes and officials to include wind factors during competition.

Routledge Handbook of Sports Performance Analysis
Author: Tim McGarry
Publisher: Taylor & Francis
ISBN: 1136658637
Category : Sports & Recreation
Languages : en
Pages : 513
Book Description
Sport performance analysis techniques help coaches, athletes and sport scientists develop an objective understanding of actual sport performance, as opposed to self-report, fitness tests or laboratory based experiments. For example, contemporary performance analysis enables elite sports people and coaches to obtain live feedback of match statistics and video sequences using flexible internet systems, systems that have become an indispensible tool for all those involved in high performance sport. The Routledge Handbook of Sports Performance Analysis is the most comprehensive guide to this exciting and dynamic branch of sport science ever to be published. The book explores performance analysis across the four main contexts in which it is commonly used: support for coaches and athletes; the media; judging sport contests, and academic research. It offers an up-to-date account of methodological advances in PA research, assesses the evidence underpinning contemporary theories of sport performance, and reviews developments in applied PA across a wide range of sports, from soccer to track and field athletics. Covering every important aspect of PA, including tactics, strategy, mechanical aspects of technique, physical aspects of performance such as work-rate, coach behaviour and referee behaviour, this is an essential reference for any serious student, researcher or practitioner working in sport performance analysis, sport coaching or high performance sport.
