Die Themen Telearbeit und Telezentren wurden dabei unter mehreren Gesichtspunkten wissenschaftlich bearbeitet, die Bandbreite der Untersuchungen reicht von Arbeiten über die allgemeine Bedeutung von Telezentren für die Regionalentwicklung bis hin zu Analysen über die Arbeits- und Organisationsstrukturen von Telearbeit und Telezentren aus organisationspsychologischer Sicht. Während allerdings bei den meisten wissenschaftlichen Arbeiten zu diesem Thema die theoretischen Einflüsse von Telearbeit und Telezentren auf den ländlichen Arbeitsmarkt im Mittelpunkt des Interesses stehen, ist es Ziel dieser Arbeit, die Diskussion über den Sinn oder Unsinn von Telearbeit und deren Beitrag zur wirtschaftlichen Entwicklung ländlicher Regionen auf eine solide empirische Basis zu stellen.
