Book Description
As a field in its own right, Minority Language Media studies is developing fast. The recent technological and social developments that have accelerated media convergence and opened new ways of access and exchange into spaces formerly controlled by media institutions, offer new opportunities, challenges and dangers to minority languages, and especially to their already established media institutions. This book includes debates on what convergence and participation actually mean, a series of case studies of specific social media developments in minority language, as well as comparative studies on how the cultural industries have engaged with the new possibilities brought about by media convergence. Finally, the book also offers a historical review of the development of Minority Language Media worldwide, and evidences the areas in which more extensive research is required.

Book Description
This publication is based on a study that was prepared for the Secretariat of the European Charter for Regional or Minority Languages to inform the future application of those provisions of the charter relating to the media. At the charter secretariat it was felt that it would be appropriate to make this study accessible to a wider audience, in order to assist in the application of these charter provisions. In particular, it is hoped that this publication will be useful to governments which have signed and ratified, or are considering signature and ratification, of the charter, in order to better understand some of its obligations; to public servants charged with the task of implementing such obligations; to users of regional or minority languages, and those non-governmental organisations which represent them, in assessing the choice of obligations and the challenges of implementation; and to a broader public interested in these issues, not least media outlets themselves, which play no small part in the successful implementation of charter obligations.

Book Description
In the first book of its kind, Iarfhlaith Watson explores the role of Irish broadcasting in sustaining and promoting the Irish language and a sense of national identity. He discusses the ambitions of the Irish Free State in relation to the establishment of the Dublin broadcasting station, 2RN, in 1926, and the presence of Irish-language programs on national radio and, from 1962, on television channels. He describes the campaigns for the establishment, first, of Raidi na Gaeltachta in 1972 and, second, of Teilifs na Gaeilge (later TG4) in 1996, and the debates which they engendered, presenting the arguments for and against the ideologies and practicalities of the production, presentation and reception of Irish-language programs on all Irish channels.
