Book Description
The radical history of space exploration from the Russian Cosmists to Elon Musk Many societies have imagined going to live in space. What they want to do once they get up there - whether conquering the unknown, establishing space "colonies," privatising the moon's resources - reveals more than expected. In this fascinating radical history of space exploration, Fred Scharmen shows that often science and fiction have combined in the imagined dreams of life in outer space, but these visions have real implications for life back on earth. For the Russian Cosmists of the 1890s space was a place to pursue human perfection away from the Earth. For others, such as Wernher Von Braun, it was an engineering task that combined, in the Space Race, the Cold War, and during World War II, with destructive geopolitics. Arthur C. Clark in his speculative books offered an alternative vision of wonder that is indifferent to human interaction. Meanwhile NASA planned and managed the space station like an earthbound corporation. Today, the market has arrived into outer space and exploration is the plaything of superrich technology billionaires, who plan to privatise the mineral wealth for themselves. Are other worlds really possible? Bringing these figures and ideas together reveals a completely different story of our relationship with outer space, as well as the dangers of our current direction of extractive capitalism and colonisation.

Book Description
The blockchain is a distributed ledger that stores information in a way that makes it extremely difficult, if not impossible, for the system to be altered, hacked, or manipulated. A distributed ledger is what a blockchain is. This ledger copies and distributes transactions throughout the network of computers that are part of the blockchain. A data structure known as blockchain has the potential to take the shape of an expanding list of information blocks. Because the knowledge blocks are interconnected, more recent blocks cannot be withdrawn or changed after they have been added. The decentralized digital currency Bitcoin relies on the blockchain technology for its operations. A distributed database that contains records of all transactions or digital activities that have been carried out and shared among parties that are participating is called a blockchain. Each transaction is checked by the system's users who make up the bulk of its members. It includes each and every record of each transaction in its entirety. The most widely used example of a blockchain technology is the cryptocurrency known as Bitcoin. In 2008, a person or group of people going by the name "Satoshi Nakamoto" issued a white paper titled "BitCoin: A peer-to-peer electronic cash system." This was the first time that the Blockchain Technology was brought to public attention. This new technology, known as blockchain, logs transactions in a digital ledger that is shared across the network. Because of this, the ledger cannot be altered in any way. Transactions involving anything of value, like as real estate, automobiles, and so on, may be recorded on the blockchain. Bitcoin is perhaps the most well-known application of Blockchain technology. Bitcoin is a form of cryptocurrency that may be used for the purchase and sale of digital assets over the internet. For two parties to successfully carry out transactions via the internet, Bitcoin relies on cryptographic evidence rather than the confidence of a third party. A unique cryptographic signature is used to secure each transaction.

Book Description
Since the creation of the comic book, cases of legal conflict and confusion have often arisen where concepts such as public domain, unincorporated entities and moral rights are involved. As a result, comics creators are frequently concerned about whether they are protecting themselves. There are many questions and no single place to find the answers--that is, until now. Entertaining as it instructs, this book seeks to provide those answers, examining the legal history of comics and presenting information in a way that is understandable to everyone. While not seeking to provide legal advice, this book presents the legal background in plain English, and looks at the stories behind the cases. Every lawsuit has a story and every case has lessons to be learned. As these lessons are explored, the reader will learn the importance of contracts, the basics of copyright and trademark, the precautions necessary when working with public domain characters and the effects of censorship.

Book Description
A revealing look at the parallel mythologies behind the colonization of Earth and space—and a bold vision for a more equitable, responsible future both on and beyond our planet. As environmental, political, and public health crises multiply on Earth, we are also at the dawn of a new space race in which governments team up with celebrity billionaires to exploit the cosmos for human gain. The best-known of these pioneers are selling different visions of the future: while Elon Musk and SpaceX seek to establish a human presence on Mars, Jeff Bezos and Blue Origin work toward moving millions of earthlings into rotating near-Earth habitats. Despite these distinctions, these two billionaires share a core utopian project: the salvation of humanity through the exploitation of space. In Astrotopia, philosopher of science and religion Mary-Jane Rubenstein pulls back the curtain on the not-so-new myths these space barons are peddling, like growth without limit, energy without guilt, and salvation in a brand-new world. As Rubenstein reveals, we have already seen the destructive effects of this frontier zealotry in the centuries-long history of European colonialism. Much like the imperial project on Earth, this renewed effort to conquer space is presented as a religious calling: in the face of a coming apocalypse, some very wealthy messiahs are offering an other-worldly escape to a chosen few. But Rubenstein does more than expose the values of capitalist technoscience as the product of bad mythologies. She offers a vision of exploring space without reproducing the atrocities of earthly colonialism, encouraging us to find and even make stories that put cosmic caretaking over profiteering.
