Sulfur Dioxide Insertion Reactions for Organic Synthesis
Author: Danqing Zheng
Publisher: Springer
ISBN: 9811042020
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 84
Book Description
This brief summarizes the most commonly used sulfur dioxide surrogates and also shows the diverse reactivities to highlight the advances made in the development of synthetic methods through the insertion of sulfur dioxide. Depending on the nature of the transformation, these reactions are classified into four types: (i) pericyclic reactions; (ii) nucleophilic addition with organometallic reagents; (iii) transition metal catalysis; and (iv) free radical reactions. Highlighting recent advances in the insertion of sulfur dioxide, providing detailed descriptions of the experimental procedures for these valuable reactions, and discussing the remaining challenges in this field, the brief offers an appealing and highly useful guide for a wide readership in organic chemistry and medicinal chemistry from both academia and industry.

ISBN: 9780935702934
Category : Organic compounds
Languages : en
Pages : 428
Book Description
A text for use in a one-semester course for upper-level students familiar with basic organic chemistry, or as a survey course for practicing organic chemists. Chapters 1 and 2 present a brief overview of the formalisms and mechanisms required to understand the processes discussed in chapters 3-10, which deal with the application of transition metal organometallic chemistry to organic synthesis with specific attention to applications with complex molecules. Updates and expands chapters 13-20 of Principles and Applications of Organotransition Metal Chemistry, 2nd ed. (1987). Published by University Science Books, 20 Edgehill Rd., Mill Valley, CA 94941. Elemental Sulfur and Sulfur-Rich Compounds II
Author: Ralf Steudel
Publisher: Springer
ISBN: 3540449515
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 267
Book Description
Despite more than 200 years of sulfur research the chemistry of elemental sulfur and sulfur-rich compounds is still full of “white spots” which have to be filled in with solid knowledge and reliable data. This situation is parti- larly regrettable since elemental sulfur is one of the most important raw - terials of the chemical industry produced in record-breaking quantities of ca. 35 million tons annually worldwide and mainly used for the production of sulfuric acid. Fortunately, enormous progress has been made during the last 30 years in the understanding of the “yellow element”. As the result of extensive inter- tional research activities sulfur has now become the element with the largest number of allotropes, the element with the largest number of binary oxides, and also the element with the largest number of binary nitrides. Sulfur, a typical non-metal, has been found to become a metal at high pressure and is even superconducting at 10 K under a pressure of 93 GPa and at 17 K at 260 GPa, respectively. This is the highest critical temperature of all chemical elements. Actually, the pressure-temperature phase diagram of sulfur is one of the most complicated of all elements and still needs further investigation.
