Severely handicapped as the result of a merciless beating at age 10 by his schoolteacher, Pardington did not let physical suffering suppress his victorious spirit or his keen sense of humor. Published posthumously following the author's untimely death in 1915 at age 49, has been in continuous print for nearly three-quarters of a century.
