Relation Between Air-sea Exchange Over the Arabian Sea and the Fluctuations of the Western Indian Summer Monsoon
Author: Chandrakant M. Bhumralkar
Publisher:
ISBN:
Category : India
Languages : en
Pages : 63
Book Description
Frequent and accurate observations made by research aircraft, during the summer of 1963, have been used to determine the thermal structure and the modifications of the summer monsoon air mass over the Arabian Sea. Also five-day running averages of the conventional daily marine meteorological data, over the Arabian Sea, have been computed for the period June 20 through July 19, 1963. These averages, centered at the middle data of each 5-day period, have been substituted in the transfer equations to compute quasi-synoptic scale daily transfer of latent heat and sensible heat between the Arabian Sea and the atmosphere. The patterns of latent heat transfer and its transport along the surface 4-day trajectories have been considered in relation to the fluctuations of the intensity of precipitation at the west coast of India. (Modified author abstract).
