Book Description
Chemical markers have brought important new dimensions to the studies of the brain. As a result of this development, the chemical anatomy of the neurons system is being explored in great detail. This new functional neuroanatomy has demonstrated new organizations of perikaryal groupings of neurons and pathways from these cells which often follow unexpected courses. The field of chemical identification has recently been improved by methods reported in this volume, e.g. serotonin locatization and direct labelling of cholinergic neurons. The new techniques provide a ''new pair of glasses'' for everyone working in this field. This volume will be of great interest for researchers in neuropharmacology, neuroanatomy, immunochemistry, neuroendocrinology, neuroscience and cell biology.

Neuroregulation of Autonomic, Endocrine and Immune Systems
Author: Robert C.A. Frederickson
Publisher: Springer Science & Business Media
ISBN: 1461323150
Category : Medical
Languages : en
Pages : 616
Book Description
Our understanding of the functioning of the brain has grown rapidly over the last decade or two. So has our recognition of the possible role of brain dysfunction in diseases considered earlier to be of peripheral or somatic origin. This culminates naturally in a focus on the nature of the influence of the brain on other systems such as the autonomic, neuroendocrine and immune systems. And we must come full circle and question the nature of the influence of these systems on the function of the brain. Thus, we gain a picture of a complex regulatory interaction, fine tuned in normal circumstances to provide each system with necessary information about the status of the other systems and the basis to respond appropriately to changes in each other. This volume provides the proceedings of the first of a series of international symposia intended to review the state-of-the-art understanding and frontier exploration of the above described interregulatory phenomena, with some emphasis on the relevance of this information to the etiology and treatment of disease. The purpose of this first symposium was to lay the groundwork for this continuing endeavor. To accomplish such a goal required bringing together diverse multidisciplinary professionals - eg neurobiologists, immunol ogists, psychiatrists, cardiologists and students amongst others.

Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 392
Book Description
Aging of the Autonomic Nervous System is the first book devoted to the aging of the autonomic nervous system. The book presents the most recent findings on topics such as general aspects of the autonomic nervous system, main neurotransmitter systems, age-dependent changes of neuroeffector mechanisms in target organs, and therapeutic perspectives. It also provides a comprehensive analysis of the possible consequences of these findings. Aging of the Autonomic Nervous System will be a useful volume for gerontologists and neuroscientists.
