Book Description
Excerpt from Statutory Torts in Massachusetts The preparation of the present edition of this book has been made necessary by the general revision of the statute law of the Commonwealth, which resulted in very considerable changes, both of form and of phraseology, in those sections which serve as the basis of the work. In preparing this edition, the opportunity has been taken not only thoroughly to rewrite and rearrange the material contained in the first edition, and to add thereto the considerable matter to be found in the something like one hundred and fifty cases decided since that edition was published, but as well to add several topics not before treated. As the result of these changes and additions, an entirely new work, though built upon the same plan, is submitted to the legal profession, with the hope that it may find for itself a field of practical usefulness. Book Description
Excerpt from Notes on the Public Statutes of Massachusetts The added matter in this edition includes notes on the cases in twenty-one volumes of the Reports (vols. 130 to 150, inclusive), and the effect of these and the other additions has been to increase the body of the book from 669 to 835 pages, the page being also somewhat enlarged. This shows an ih crease of fully one quarter in the size of this edition as com pared with the edition Of 1882. I am well aware that many places may be pointed out where a fuller statement of the substance of the cases cited would largely increase the value of the book. This is espe cially true of the Notes on the Constitution, but few of which are elaborated in the manner which the subject deserves. The reader must remember, however, that for the labor ex pended on this book, the reward, pecuniary or otherwise, which the authors have received, or may expect hereafter to receive, is most inadequate, and they deem themselves eu titled to the thanks of the profession for having done so much, rather than to criticism for not having done more.
