Book Description
In Asia, this species ranges from Hokkaido, Japan, the Kuril and Komandorskiy Islands, and the northwest coast of the Sea of Okhotsk in the south to the Anadyr River in the north (Foerster 1968, Burgner 1991). [...] The proportions of the various Fraser sockeye stock groups in the test fisheries are used to allocate Johnstone Strait catch and to determine the diversion rate through Johnstone Strait for the various Fraser sockeye stocks. [...] Stop logs in the dam permit the storage of water and control of lake discharge during the period of sockeye migration and spawning. [...] In 1994 and 1995 the traps were built in the outlet of the adult trap where the majority of flows from the lake were focused. [...] Where ZI = the standard score for year I (such that the mean of ZI =0); XI= log of the original escapement value; X= the mean of the log of all recorded escapements for Sakinaw Lake sockeye; SD = standard deviation of the log of all the escapements.

Book Description
"This population experienced a very large decline in the 1980s and 1990s because of low ocean survival and over-fishing. Brood stock from Sakinaw Lake were maintained in a captive-breeding program that produced fry and smolts released into the lake beginning in 2000. Despite these introductions, almost no adults returned to the lake in 2006-2009. Smolts from the captive-breeding program continued to be introduced and adults returned to the lake in 2010 through 2014. Some of these fish spawned successfully on historical spawning beaches, demonstrating that the program was having some success in re-establishing the population. However, the number of wild-hatched fish is very small. Threats from development around the lake, low ocean survival, and the fishery continue. Designated Endangered in an emergency assessment on 20 October 2002. Status re-examined and confirmed in May 2003. Status re-examined in an emergency reassessment on 20 April 2006 and confirmed Endangered. Status re-examined and confirmed in April 2016"--Assessment summary, p. iii.

Book Description
This report documents an assessment of the status of Cultus Lake sockeye salmon population, one of the most intensively studied salmon stocks in British Columbia. The report summarizes or provides detailed data regarding: watershed geomorphology; lake limnology & fish ecology; sockeye life history; enhancement history; predator & exotic species control; spawner counts since 1925; sockeye fry assessments from lake hydroacoustic & trawl surveys; smolt counts since 1926; fishery management processes & objectives; fishery catches & total returns since 1952; and marine distribution & migratory timing. These data are used to evaluate trends in escapements, juvenile abundance, catch & total return, and to calculate freshwater & total survival indexes & exploitation rates. Based on the available data & the analytic results, the report provides an evaluation of the stock's productive capacity & current status, and uses a simulation model based on Bayesian stock-recruitment analyses to evaluate future stock trajectories under different scenarios of prespawn mortality & exploitation. Finally, it recommends the development of a risk assessment framework that evaluates risks of different fisheries & recovery options, and also recommends the development of a comprehensive recovery plan.
