Partial Difference Equations
Author: Sui Sun Cheng
Publisher: CRC Press
ISBN: 9780415298841
Category : Mathematics
Languages : en
Pages : 284
Book Description
Partial Difference Equations treats this major class of functional relations. Such equations have recursive structures so that the usual concepts of increments are important. This book describes mathematical methods that help in dealing with recurrence relations that govern the behavior of variables such as population size and stock price. It is helpful for anyone who has mastered undergraduate mathematical concepts. It offers a concise introduction to the tools and techniques that have proven successful in obtaining results in partial difference equations.

Periodicities in Nonlinear Difference Equations
Author: E.A. Grove
Publisher: CRC Press
ISBN: 0849331560
Category : Mathematics
Languages : en
Pages : 395
Book Description
Sharkovsky's Theorem, Li and Yorke's "period three implies chaos" result, and the (3x+1) conjecture are beautiful and deep results that demonstrate the rich periodic character of first-order, nonlinear difference equations. To date, however, we still know surprisingly little about higher-order nonlinear difference equations. During the last ten years, the authors of this book have been fascinated with discovering periodicities in equations of higher order which for certain values of their parameters have one of the following characteristics: 1. Every solution of the equation is periodic with the same period. 2. Every solution of the equation is eventually periodic with a prescribed period. 3. Every solution of the equation converges to a periodic solution with the same period. This monograph presents their findings along with some thought-provoking questions and many open problems and conjectures worthy of investigation. The authors also propose investigation of the global character of solutions of these equations for other values of their parameters and working toward a more complete picture of the global behavior of their solutions. With the results and discussions it presents, Periodicities in Nonlinear Difference Equations places a few more stones in the foundation of the basic theory of nonlinear difference equations. Researchers and graduate students working in difference equations and discrete dynamical systems will find much to intrigue them and inspire further work in this area.

Relaxed Barrier Function Based Model Predictive Control
Author: Christian Feller
Publisher: Logos Verlag Berlin GmbH
ISBN: 3832545441
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 278
Book Description
In this thesis, we introduce the novel concept of relaxed barrier function based model predictive control and present a comprehensive theoretical and algorithmic framework for the design, analysis, and implementation of relaxed barrier function based MPC approaches. Instead of treating the underlying optimization as an idealized static map, a key motive of the MPC results and algorithms presented in this thesis is to study the interconnected dynamics of controlled plant and iterative optimization algorithm in an integrated barrier function based framework and to analyze the resulting overall closed-loop system both from a systems theoretic and algorithmic perspective. One of the presented main results is a novel class of barrier function based anytime MPC algorithms that guarantee important properties of the closed-loop system independently of the number of optimization algorithm iterations that are performed at each sampling step. The obtained theoretical results are illustrated by various numerical examples and benchmark tests as well as by an experimental case study in which the proposed class of barrier function based MPC algorithms is applied to the predictive control of a self-driving car.

Advances in State Estimation, Diagnosis and Control of Complex Systems
Author: Ye Wang
Publisher: Springer Nature
ISBN: 303052440X
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 252
Book Description
This book presents theoretical and practical findings on the state estimation, diagnosis and control of complex systems, especially in the mathematical form of descriptor systems. The research is fully motivated by real-world applications (i.e., Barcelona’s water distribution network), which require control systems capable of taking into account their specific features and the limits of operations in the presence of uncertainties stemming from modeling errors and component malfunctions. Accordingly, the book first introduces a complete set-based framework for explicitly describing the effects of uncertainties in the descriptor systems discussed. In turn, this set-based framework is used for state estimation and diagnosis. The book also presents a number of application results on economic model predictive control from actual water distribution networks and smart grids. Moreover, the book introduces a fault-tolerant control strategy based on virtual actuators and sensors for such systems in the descriptor form.

Semilinear Evolution Equations and Their Applications
Author: Toka Diagana
Publisher: Springer
ISBN: 303000449X
Category : Mathematics
Languages : en
Pages : 199
Book Description
This book, which is a continuation of Almost Automorphic Type and Almost Periodic Type Functions in Abstract Spaces, presents recent trends and developments upon fractional, first, and second order semilinear difference and differential equations, including degenerate ones. Various stability, uniqueness, and existence results are established using various tools from nonlinear functional analysis and operator theory (such as semigroup methods). Various applications to partial differential equations and the dynamic of populations are amply discussed. This self-contained volume is primarily intended for advanced undergraduate and graduate students, post-graduates and researchers, but may also be of interest to non-mathematicians such as physicists and theoretically oriented engineers. It can also be used as a graduate text on evolution equations and difference equations and their applications to partial differential equations and practical problems arising in population dynamics. For completeness, detailed preliminary background on Banach and Hilbert spaces, operator theory, semigroups of operators, and almost periodic functions and their spectral theory are included as well.
